Gloomy Lyrics
Some people laugh in the dark,
Some people cry alone,
Some people talk,
Without saying a thing,
And everything turns out gloomy.
Some people count your money,
Someone is counting your days,
And somebody got to keep track,
Of your mind,
When everything turns out gloomy.
Brothers’ll make you look sideways,
Fathers’ll make you look back,
And when you’re done talking,
You still got to shoot,
Cause everything turns out gloomy.
Some people cry alone,
Some people talk,
Without saying a thing,
And everything turns out gloomy.
Someone is counting your days,
And somebody got to keep track,
Of your mind,
When everything turns out gloomy.
Fathers’ll make you look back,
And when you’re done talking,
You still got to shoot,
Cause everything turns out gloomy.

any chance it's another anti-war number? 2nd verse sounds like it.
Maybe about depression / just feeling down......... like the psychedelic effects tho! Surprising for CCR
:)
Sounds to me like he's talking about heroin addiction. The lyrics and the sound effects in the song point to that without really coming out and saying it - except for the "shoot" comment. Maybe Fogerty heard Velvet Underground's "Heroin" and got inspired.
I don't think you're right. Creedence Clearwater Revival have never made "drug songs". The bluesy sound of this song is inspired by John Fogerty's fantasies about "The Grand Old Southland" (Louisiana), just like the whole "Creedence Clearwater Revival"-album, or also the song Born On The Bayou.
