i cant believe no-ones posted anything! ok well ill get the ball rolling, i think its about her and her previous partners 'song' that they would listen to and cherish together. but now 'that old love is gone' whenever she hears the song 'it hurts her to hear the melody that was good to her before' as now it only reminds her of pain and loss.
obviously this is my own interpretation as it relates to moments i've experienced throughout my own life. great song though!
I totally agree with el amor, it was a song that "said love was forever" and told her it would "never break [her] heart", but odviously lied. Now she's just waiting for that "love [she's] lookin for" then her "sweet sweet song" won't "sound so sad no more".
I think the 'song' here isn't an actual song, but the song of love.
