If I Know You Lyrics
Clever lier, fooling us all, never thought I'd work it out
How could I have known it was ever about you boy?
Now there's nothing to say, there's no words and we're not talking anyhow
You must have known I was never to doubt you boy
If it was so fine, it was so good, oh you're unbelievable
All this time I've been living without you boy, not your lying
It felt so good, the world don't know, now they'll never find out
All these years she must've been beside you boy
Don't forget that I was the one that you found
And if I know you, you'll find me someplace new
I hope I never, I hope I never have to
We're a waste of time
And if I know you, learned long ago it's true
I hope I never, I hope I never have to
Go and explain, explain it again, boy that this all started
Found you lying in the arms of another girl so stop your crying
Day after day, year after year, far too long it lasted
Must have thought I was nothing without you boy
Don't forget that I was the one that you found
And if I know you, you'll find me someplace new
I hope I never, I hope I never have to
We're a waste of time
And if I know you, learned long ago it's true
I hope I never, I hope I never have to
And tonight if we learn that the world's on fire
I guess I'll turn to you
I hope I never, I hope I never have to
I've failed to fight, so hard to fight
And I can find a way for you and I to go on like this
I'm always learning things the hard, hard, hardest way
'Cause I was the one that you found
And if I know you, you'll find me someplace new
I hope you never, I hope you never get to
Tonight, if we learn that the world's on fire
I guess I'll turn to you
I hope I never, I hope I never have to
How could I have known it was ever about you boy?

boy falls for another boy for the first time boy freaks out and breaks it off boy eventually goes back to the first boy but freaks out again this repeats a few times boy is ashamed and keeps this a secret from everyone he knows while dating girls.
but deep down he can't deny the connection he has with the other boy.
@trusty: I am absolutely agree with you. Song is all about the strange relationships between two boys sometimes, when one of them cannot accept the real 'himself' and keeps trying to see girls. There are such boys and this kind of love and relations are totally destroyng the other person in the relationship.

"If it was so fine, it was so good Oh you're unbelievable"
Those lines make me feel like, the guy has said the relationship is good and everything is fine, but it was a lie. So he is unbelievable.
"We're a waste of time And if I know you, learned long ago it's true"
There is nothing here anymore, Our relationship is a waste of time
"Go and explain, explain it again, boy that this all started Found you lying in the arms of another girl So stop your crying Day after day, year after year Far too long it lasted You must have thought I was nothing without you boy"
It all started when she found him lying in the arms of another girl (note the word another which abandons trusty's interpretation), the boy is crying but he is the wrong doer here, the day after day, year after year far too long it lasted, the relationship and the cheating went on too long. Usual male ego for the last line :P
I interpret the important line, "And if I know you You'll find me someplace new", as sso:
Me not as a person, but rather "me" as emotion, love/excitement.
As if, 'You found and fell in love with me, but I know that you will soon find another love in someone else" It's "a waste of time" because we both know you're just going to run off with another "Me" again just like you always do.
"Found you lying in the arms of another girl" Notice the word 'another'. Just because it's sung by a guy doesn't mean the 'protagonist' is a guy as well (not that I'd mind if he was, but anyway). Altogether this is a great song that describes being betrayed a whole lot more poetic than most songs about this.
Lol at the troll xD
I love this song. So different from the stereotypical Presets. Very intense.
Gosh I love this song _ It's quite different from their other songs, but I think that's what makes it so good. :D

This apparently has been written & sung from a woman's point-of-view in a relationship, according to Julian Hamilton from the band when this was a the feature album of the week on Australia's radio station, Triple J.
That's right. He said he was going to fob it off to a female singer but decided he wanted to keep it for himself.
LOVE the "Oooh"'s in this one.
but the confuseing thing is why didnt he change the lyrics in a male point of view?

@lancelot: because as quote: "It’s a break up song but I didn’t want it to be a guy pissed off at a girl [......] The lyrics came out a bit weird and we thought maybe we could flog this off to a girl singer, but then I thought no, this song needs to be sung with balls!" - Julian Hamilton

Legendary song, best on the album imo.
I enjoy trusty's interpretation. It add depth the the song in that instance.
Although, I gathered when I first heard it that it was from a Womans stand point because I know of others groups who have done the same and I am probably used to it by now. For instance, the lead male singer from Black Kids, singing "I'm Not Gonna Teach Him How To Dance With You". In the song, he refers to himself as a girl in this instance.
Beautiful song & video though, and I still prefer trusty's view, but with songs such as these and ambiguous, that is the beauty of it.
