As The Crow Flies Lyrics
Mother Crow, Feels no pain,
Speaks no words
Speckled egg, Hatching slow,
by the black baby bird
One day, fly over me
Paste you in, Flannel coat, months fly by.
Grow your bones, feathers, skin, bible black by and by
You will spread your wings.
One day, fly over me
Fly over, fly over me.
Speaks no words
Speckled egg, Hatching slow,
by the black baby bird
Grow your bones, feathers, skin, bible black by and by
You will spread your wings.

i wrote a really long comment, then my computer froze :( so here it goes again. except im going to keep this one short. I feel that this song is about his daughter, and how he will not always be there for her. It is about her growing up with him not around, similar to a crow. One day she will be her own person, have a life of her own and Fly over him.
this song really is so touching, and one of my personal favorites on air.
I agree but I also believe that it is not only about his daughter but about parents and their children and knowing that you will not always be with your child and about them growing older and becoming independent and that they will one day "fly over" you

perfect samkilmoon.
definitely about watching his daughter grow up. referring to children growing up as spreading their wings and leaving the nest is a very common metaphor.
such a beautiful song, like pretty much all of air and water.
and what's kool about this is that as clinche as that metaphor is, this song does not sound clinche to me at all
Yeah, it is awesome to see how having a daughter has affected Dustin, he writes about it in The Whaler, Sky is falling and this one. Sounds like a lullaby he might sing to her toward the end! I love it!
