Trashcan Lyrics
brothers hold the line till we got something
this world is way too small to feel like nothing
i was found near the train tracks looking so homeless at you
you came like a copper
you said, "son it's time to move"
my love is coming i can barely hardly wait around
when my mother left the bat was the only one here
he is just a reason why i'm still here
my mother's well spoken, though i didn't get that gene
but yes, i lost it, and yes, my eyes they are green
my love is coming i can barely hardly wait around
well if you hide your questions there's no answer
i finally found the cure for my own cancer
my love is coming i can barely hardly wait
my heart is thumping i can feel it more with every beat
my love is coming i can barely hardly wait around
this world is way too small to feel like nothing
i was found near the train tracks looking so homeless at you
you came like a copper
you said, "son it's time to move"
he is just a reason why i'm still here
my mother's well spoken, though i didn't get that gene
but yes, i lost it, and yes, my eyes they are green
i finally found the cure for my own cancer
my heart is thumping i can feel it more with every beat
my love is coming i can barely hardly wait around

When Delta Spirit formed they didn't have a lead vocalist. The guy that eventually became the lead singer was a man the band met while he was singing on the street for money. At the time, he was living in a 2 bedroom apartment with 5 people. I think this is his song. It's pretty self explanatory once you know the story behind the band, but I'll lay it out anyway:
"brothers hold the line til we got something this world is way too small to feel like nothing" I think he's talking to his bandmates here, encouraging their musical pursuits. But these two lines really are great and can apply to anyone in anything they're after.
"I was found near the train tracks looking so homeless at you You came like a copper You said 'son it's time to move'" Pretty straightforward: the band saw him and picked him up and gave him an opportunity.
"My love is comin, I can barely hardly wait around" I think his love is his audience, or maybe his opportunity to play for a solid audience.
and then "I've finally found the cure for my own cancer" His music is what he's been struggling for to put meaning to his life.
This is what I believe he was thinking when he wrote this song. But I think it's a great song that can be interpreted to fit the circumstances of any person struggling to chase a dream. Great song. Great Band.

BRANDON YOUNG [Delta Spirit's percussionist]: The second song on the new album, “Trashcans,” is actually about how we got together as a band. About four years ago, I was in downtown San Diego getting a pack of smokes at 2:30 in the morning and I see this guy playing guitar in the trolley station. A lot of homeless people play guitars down there, but this guy actually sounded pretty good. So, I walked over there and this kid — Matt [Vasquez], our singer — was jamming. I got his number and then the band that me and John were in broke up, so I called Matt, the guy I just met on the train tracks. He’d just recorded a solo record and he was like, f--k it, I’m throwing this away and playing with you guys.
