Silja Line Lyrics

I left my captain's hat at home
There's no pirates I can dodge or islands to explore
Just some plain folks who don't mind
The sound of screaming children and drinking too much vodka lime

And oh, I see
No way to change what's been said and done
I've set my own course, and I'll try to carry on

On my days off from my shift
I sailed the windy streets of Stockholm, captain of the great Vassa warship
It's first breakfast with the king
Recount the month's adventures and divvy up the treasures that I bring

But oh, I see
No way to change what's been said and done
I've set my own course, and I'll try to carry on

So back and forth I go on this Baltic Sea
Waiting for a whale to come and rescue me, hey, hey
And I hear them sing

Oh, let's all toast to the ones we love!
Oh, to old friends and to Viking blood!
Oh, we could sing all night til the prince wakes up!
Oh, and I'll just bide my time
And steer the Silja Line

Cover art for Silja Line lyrics by Rosebuds, The

I thought the end was "Oh let's all toast to the ones we love Oh to old friends and to binding blood" the next line I'm not sure of either.

This song is great, though.

it's "I see no way to change what's been said and done".

then it's "On my days off from my ship, I sail the windy streets of Stockholm, Captain of the great Vasa warship".

The Vasa was an old warship that originated in Sweden, which goes with the previous reference to Stockholm.

how do i know this? because i'm a viking.

I think this song is about the sinking of ship, MS Estonia from Silja Line. One of the worst sea disasters in history. Very few of the total passengers survived. The "Waiting for a whale to come and rescue me" lyrics are most likely about the few that survived the sinking but were not rescued and died of hypothermia.

Ivan from the Rosebuds always has a beautiful voice, but he really shines in this song.
