This Is Me You're Talking To Lyrics

This was bound to happen
It was just a matter of time
This town is just too small
For us to really say 'goodbye'
You're smiling that smile
That you get when you're nervous
Like you don't quite know what to do
But this is me you're talking to
This is me you're talking to

I've heard you met somebody
It didn't take you very long
And I'll admit it isn't easy
Knowing you've moved on
But I can see how you could make any woman
Fall deep in love with you
This is me you're talking to

Me, the one who really knows you
Me, the one whose heart you've broken
Me, the one who was still hoping
You might be missing me

We don't have to do this
We don't have to act like friends
As much as I would love to
I really just don't think I can

You don't have to tell me
That you really love me
After all we have been through
'Cause this is me you're talking to

Me, the one who really knows you
Me, the one whose heart you've broken
Me, the one who was still hoping
You might be missing me

Oh, and you don't have to say that you do
This is me you're talking to
This is me you're talking to

The song is about exes who aren't together anymore. But in a small town, you keep bumping into each other.

You can small talk all you want ... "how's the weather?", etc., but in your mind, you're thinking something totally different.

She's saying to be yourself. This is me you're talking to; you don't have to talk fake, and act all fake. It's me. Talk to me like you know me, not like some stranger you just met.

This song relates to my life right now. It's about a girl who was in love with a guy and she has to keep seeing him around town. He found someone new and she's still dealing with the breakup. But there is unspoken words between the two because it's clear that she loves him and he still cares for her...he feels nervous around her b/c he does not know if he should talk to her or not.

I love the vulnerability that this song evokes, the feeling of no longer speaking to someone that you love and used to share everything with. "we don't have to do this, we don't have to act like friends"
