Standing Next To Me

here is my thoughts on this song, or at least, my interpritation. ok so our guy, the guy who is singing, he has a GirlFriend, and there is another guy(i'll refurr to him as X) so X is trying to steal away the Girlfriend of our guy. and my interpritation of "want her, have her, 2years have gone now but i cant relaite to the games that u play" hes basically saying "if u want to try to get my girl, go ahead, TRY, ive been with her for 2years and u aint getting nowhere with her, and im not gonna play these little games with u so i can keep the girl that i already have and it would be a waste of time on my part"

where he says "as desire passes thru then youll open to the truth i hope u understand and your love is standing next to me" MY INTERPRITATION- "when you're done liking my girl, THATS when you will be able to see clearly that she is with me and she is in love with me and she isnt going to leave me for you"

"the one you fell for, makes it too juvinile, and youll laugh at yourself again and again, and we'll drink to the thought that she'll remember you, maybe tomorrow" MY INTERPRITATION= "the fact that you're 'in love' with my girl-that u bearly know, is kiddish and childish, you'll look back on this and laugh one day on how silly this situation really is...and shes gonna forget u so u shud forget her"

well thats my inturpentation of this complex song. As poet, this song is pure and i enjoyed the medium in which it was presented to me(music) I love the shadow puppets for this reason.

I have a different take on this song as part of my theory that the whole album is about one issue, a relationship going wrong (see The Meeting Place for full theory).

I reckon this is about the period when things were going OK (the only song on the album that sounds optimistic) - but he was "more into it" than her.

Hence her love was 'standing next to (him)', emphasis on the fact it is next to him, rather than something that has been expressed or internalised. It is 'next to him' but not within him as it should be. This only really makes sense in the context of the whole album.

I think the singer is gay and loves another guy. That guy though loves a girl. As his good friend, he watched this guy try to get closer with the girl for 2 years now. He always thought that the guy will realise that he can be with him. But now he sees that the guy truly loves the girl and tries to mock this relationship. Telling him she can never truly appreciate him. Your love is standing next to me sounds to me like he simply says "I love you".

He kinda understands he will never win this "battle", because the other guy's love is true.

I always think this tune is about the singer (X) and his want to be girlfriend (Y) and then a seperate person on the side (J)

X has liked this girl for 2 years but she keeps playing games with him, so after getting sick of 2 years of waiting around and being played with, he gives up and hands her off to J, the ending of the first verse I see is written from J's perspective

J & X were possibly friends?

The song then reverts back to X as the narrator as he thinks of his time chasing Y and how stupid he was, concluding with him wondering if she still thinks of him.

"But it's seemed you deny" sounds more like "Makes it seem juvenile" Other than that great song!!

i just submitted these lyrics thinking no one had oh wellllll !

The first line is ..."want her, have her".....not want to have her...he already has the girlfriend, thats the point of the song.

"You want to have her" is "You want her, Have her"
