Some Constellation Lyrics
Birds on the pillow
And paper lanterns hangin'
from the ceiling
Sticky stars aglow
Mappin' out some constellation
I'm tired of standing in the light
outside her window
Fro her I would row to the ends
of my imagination.
Pleasure to behold
A silhouette so real yet
oh so static
Measured and controlled
Lets down her hair, takes off
her army jacket
I'm tryin to figure out what's
right - do I stay or go?
For all she doesn't know...
And paper lanterns hangin'
from the ceiling
Sticky stars aglow
Mappin' out some constellation
I'm tired of standing in the light
outside her window
Fro her I would row to the ends
of my imagination.
A silhouette so real yet
oh so static
Measured and controlled
Lets down her hair, takes off
her army jacket
I'm tryin to figure out what's
right - do I stay or go?
For all she doesn't know...

So I actually emailed the band about the lyrics in the background and I got a response from Jonathan he says...
It's not right, I'm your sole satellite floating undetected orbiting your somnambulant light, yeah It's not right, you're my lone satellite, but I'm only ever near you in the middle of the night, yeah
So there you have it. Mystery solved. It's kind of fitting for the title "Some Constellation"
This is definitely my favorite song off Pershing. It sounds like summer to me.
Anyone know what the missing lyrics are? I know they aren't in the booklet or anything, but I hear them in the song.
This is an amazing song. It does sound like summer!
:)
is it just me, or does this song sound like a requiem to pangea from the first album? it's really straightforward lyrically, but it really feels like in pangea, their world went splitting apart and now he has to find some contellation to steer himself back on a course more concurrent with her. the outro 'start a riot, we all start a riot' seems like part of pangea cutting in, and the rest of the song keeps going like even though a little chaos comes, he's still trying to piece it together, to navigate and steer by stars he trusts. make any sense at all?
I like that interpretation, I don't know if it's right or anything, but your explanation makes sense to me, even if the band didn't intend it that way. I love it when bands relate songs to each other. Although, looking at the lyrics alone, does it not sound just a tad stalkerish? This also reminds me of the balcony scene in Romeo and Juliet. So basically I don't really know what to make of this song but I really like it, if for the melody alone, and it might just be my favorite off Pershing.
cause she wishes that she still had it
The guitar in this is my favorite. -_- I agree, it reminds me of summer.
wow, the missing lyrics are beautiful. This is my all time favorite song. The guitar is so great, it just makes me want to listen over & over again.
Is the lyric really "her army jacket" Because I always here "her only jacket" I don't know, I feel like that would make more sense. Either way, it's a beautiful song. "For her, I would row to the ends of my imagination" I can't get over the beauty of that line.
Translating it literally, I got that the song is about a guy standing outside a girls window. Hence the line "I'm tired of standing in the light outside her window" The first verse is describing what he can see. Her room is decorated with paper lanterns, and there are glow in the dark stars stuck to her ceiling. In the second half, he's started watching her. He's conflicted because he knows what he's doing is wrong and debates leaving. It's kind of creepy actually. But as you know, nothing can be taken literally. The entire song is symbolic of his relationship with her. He's always on the outside, admiring her from afar rather than approaching her. He knows so much about her but she doesn't know he exists. He knows he's never going to end up with her, but he can't get over thinking about her. And the missing lyrics really tie the whole idea in. It's not right, because he's the one who cares about her the most but she'll never know, and the only time he can get near her is in the middle of the night, when she doesn't know he's around. It's honestly the most beautiful song I've ever heard.
