Epic Last Song Lyrics
I can't believe I made it here
Today I'm afraid of yesterday
I wrote this letter to you, my dear
In case, afraid, this fades away
I say baby, babe I've loved you a long time
I try harder just to know you're all mine
I say baby, babe I've loved you a long time
I go happy knowing that you're alright
I called today, but missed you again
Today's the day I go up in flames
I sent the money to you, my dear
Today's the day I burn away
I say baby, babe I've loved you a long time
I try harder just to know you're all mine
I say baby, babe I've loved you a long time
I go happy knowing that you're alright
I say baby, babe I've loved you a long time
I try harder just to know you're all mine
I say baby, babe I've loved you a long time
I go happy knowing that you're alright
Today I'm afraid of yesterday
I wrote this letter to you, my dear
In case, afraid, this fades away
I try harder just to know you're all mine
I say baby, babe I've loved you a long time
I go happy knowing that you're alright
Today's the day I go up in flames
I sent the money to you, my dear
Today's the day I burn away
I try harder just to know you're all mine
I say baby, babe I've loved you a long time
I go happy knowing that you're alright
I try harder just to know you're all mine
I say baby, babe I've loved you a long time
I go happy knowing that you're alright

I disagree with it being about the end of a relationship. I think it's about the beginning of a relationship. "I cant believe I made it here, Today I'm afraid of yesterday." That sounds to me like the beginning of an intense relationship, and being afraid yesterday when he was alone. Especially later in the verse " I wrote this letter to you my dear Incase, afraid, this fades away."
The middle of the song reminds me of how when you first really love someone, every little setback like a phone call not returned, or going a day without seeing the other person is so devastating.
Just the overall feel of the song is like when you meet someone and have such intense overwhelming emotions because of that new relationship and the vulnerability that comes with it, but also the comfort and excitement of having someone to wake up for each day.
you are absolutely right.
you are absolutely right.
I totally agree with you.
I totally agree with you.
And as far as the "I've loved you a long time" Hasn't anyone ever felt that way when you've met someone who you feel like you've been looking for your whole life?
Soldier? Suicide? lol It's about moving away and moving on.
I believe the girl is someone who he had began an emotional connection with, but because of their lives taking different paths they never got together. So I agree with it being the start, but there was no relationship.
Remember a lot of songs are wrote on experience and personal circumstances. So it's never too far from home.
I don't see it as the end of a relationship because I don't think there ever was a relationship. I think it came close to it, but never happened. "Today I'm afraid of yesterday"--possibly afraid of looking back at yesterday for fear of it making him sad to remember the good times. "Yesterday" could have also been the fight that ended everything just as things were getting good. The girl's sure that she doesn't want anything anymore, or perhaps the narrator has become a bit paranoid, thinking that her ignoring his phone calls means she's not interested anymore. In any case, he still loves her and wants her and would take her back in an instant, but respects her decision to not go for the relationship, hence, "I go happy knowing that you're all right."
This song makes an ending to a relationship feel alright
i thought it was about suicide... because most of it's in past tense...
" I say baby, babe I've loved you a long time I try harder just to know you're all mine I say baby, babe I've loved you a long time I go happy knowing that you're alright "
This are my two cents....
Song about a person telling the person they love that it is obvious that they got to point of no return. Apparently this person cannot get a hold of his "loved one" he knows that there's a set he needs to take... and it's saying good bye... He will burn away and set up in flames... The final moment of a burst of love that will turn into ash and dissipate and be forgotten. This person goes as far as saying I sent you the money, maybe implying or create some type of bribe, if you don't love me for who I am, can I buy your love? It's a very sad song and you can tell by the notes they go from high to low notes giving us the feeling of grief and loss. As an added note, do not give your love or time to that person that doesn't want it... They don't deserve you...
3rd line of 1st verse: I wrote this letter to you my dear
2nd line of 2nd verse (not chorus): today's the day i go up in flames
I love this song. it speaks to me. it reminds me of a past relationship of mine, with a guy i had liked for a really long time (i say baby, babe, I've loved you a long time), and we were together for a while, but it ended up not working out. it ended peacefully though (i grow happy knowing that you're all right). and something about the line "today's the day i go up in flames" just really strikes me. truly a brilliant song, and a brilliant band as well.
Thanks mixed for the lyrics corrections, was doing my head in.
really like this song, it's different to the likes of we are rockstars, i could visualise the killers singing a song like this though, & i don't particularly like them, but i like the song anyways. xo
