Early Morning Blues And Greens Lyrics

A distant night bird mocks the sun,
I wake as I have always done,
To freshly scented sycamore,
And cold bare feet on hardwood floor.

My steaming coffee warms my face,
I’m disappointed in the taste,
But there’s a peace the early brings,
The morning world of growing things.

I feel the moment hurry on,
It was today, it’s died away,
And now it is forever gone.

And I will drink my coffee slow,
And I will watch my shadow grow,
And disappear in firelight,
And sleep alone again tonight.

I love this melancholy song. Who can't relate to the sighing ennui of the lyrics, and Davy's weary vocal is perfect for it. What a treasure.

Hilderbrand, co-author of the song with the late Jack Keller, also recorded her own version of this song for her 1969 debut (and only) album. She has fallen off the radar; if anyone knows about her whereabouts please get in touch with me here.

This songs says to me "I'm heart-broken and weary" which fits perfectly with my day today. I had to say my goodbyes to a loving companion. This song is the drudgery of trying to move on in the sludge of the pain and heartache. The rest of the world moves on, happily supplying new and tender life. It's only time and acceptance that can help heal. :(
