Red Cave Lyrics

i went out past the willow and the well
caught my breath upon the hill
at the edge of the domain

and i went down
and further down
and when i got up,
i'm at the red cave

and with that sound
as if i had been put under a spell
she led me to her abode
despite a winter's day

mary's house in the hollow of the
white hazel rapid whirlpool
and the church of hurricane

im so blessed to
have spent that time
with my family and the friends
i love with my short life i have met
so many people i deeply care for

im so blessed to
have spent that time
with my family and the friends
i love with my short life i have met
so many people i deeply care for

"Mary's house in the hollow of the white hazel rapid whirlpool and the church of the red cave" is an english translation of a town name in wales which is "Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch" -the longest town name in the world.

seriously? that can't be real. that's amazing.

It's real. The literal translation is "The church of St. Mary in the hollow of white hazel trees near the rapid whirlpool by St. Tysilio's of the red cave". Pretty cool.

willow: the long hair of a girl or woman well: her mouth and throat hill: her breast the edge of the domain: the end of adolescence; the loss of innocence; the transition from boy to man red cave: her vagina Mary's house...: knowledge and mystery the last stanza: maturity; wisdom; appreciation

This song is about coming of age.

You're a little off:

she led me to her whirlpool warm despite a winter's day

And:

church of the red cave

I heard this for the first time on the Yeasayer take-away show... youtube it: you'll love it instantly... it's much better than the album version, but it made me love the album version...

it makes more sense for the last verse to be split: im so blessed to have spent that time with my family and the friends i love with my short life i have met so many people i deeply care for

to pretty much agree with whats been said, i think its about a guy's journey through meeting an amazing girl, his persistence to sleep with her, becoming captivated by her world, and the joy, happiness & the gratefulness for life he feels when he finally achieves it.

I love this song, its an incredibly life-affirming track on an album that weaves beautifully between nihilism and hope

I just saw them play this song live, and it was really amazing. Just their facial expressions in the last stanza really made it seem like they meant it.

Wow, this is amazing! I went to this town! The song's nice, too. A perfect album closer.

"I'm so blessed to have passed the good times" is how I have always sung this and I can't seem to hear it any other way. Anyone want to back me up or shut me down.
