Happiness by the Kilowatt (Alexisonfire cover) Lyrics

So this is continuous happiness
You know, I always
Imagined it something more

With the right paint,
The right shades,
The right frames,
This could really work
What a great day to spend indoors

So wake, wake up,
So wake, wake up

So where has all the day gone?
And why are my lungs aching when I breathe?
Is there something wrong with the heat?
Why am I so cold?
My heart feels sick
And it hurts when I speak

So wake, wake up,
So wake, wake up

Was this what we hoped for?

Was this what we hoped for?

I see this song as being involved with something you always wanted but it's not what you expected when you get it. The grass is always greener on the other side type of deal. Being so involved in what you thought was what you wanted that you can't let it go and go to the other side because either way will cause you sadness. So why move?

I agree with Glassjawx110 on this one. But the other people are right when they say its beautifully tragic. Dallas Green is amazzinggg, I like his version of it more than the alexisonfire one.

i can't believe there's only one other comment. this song is so deep and it just breaks you're heart everytime you listen to it. i like that it's kinda vague so you can really mold it to fit you personally. for me, i see it as disappointment. this thing should be giving you continuous happiness and instead, you feel sad. i'm kinda seeing this guy who is absolutely amazing and i should be thrilled about that. unfortunately, he's moving away and this "continuous happiness" is not at all what i expected. if somethings could change, then things could work out. but things won't change so you stay inside in the dark. the song is beautifully tragic

There is a lot from the short story The Euphio Question by kurt Vonnegut in this song. Its about a guy who found radio frequencies from voids in space. He made a little gadget that played these frequencies, which caused happiness. It caused "Incomperable, continuous happiness-happiness by the kilowatt." Also when they were trying it out, someone said "What a great day to spend indoors," even though there was a storm outside. The inventor thought it was not right that you can just use this to get happy, and thought you should try and be happy by your actions. Dallas seems to like vonnegut as the title, in the water i am beautiful, is also taken from kurt vonnegut.

I agree with lyricalrockstar in a sense with respect to the music being about how the listener perceives it. I apply it to anxiety .. Suffering at an younger age with it I remember not wanting to leave the house .. And at some point I was actually content to sit in and not do anything .. Telling myself it wasn't that bad of a life. I'd decorate things around me to make my world brighter inside the house (right paints, frames .. This could really work) ... Then there's the part of me fighting it ... (Wake up) ... My anxiety was to do pains in my chest and lungs .. I had a spontaneous pnuemothorax and ectopic heartbeats (heart feels sick .. Lungs aching) .. Both quite common and normal for a young man .. This brought on a hypersensitivity towards my health which manifested as anxiety. I'd feel sick not eat ... Then the (is this what we hoped for) ... That's the two parts of my the rational and irrational asking one another is this the life we wanted. Its not what he meant I don't think just eerie how it seems to fit and that why its in my opinion mny favourite song of that sort of genre .. Vocals are breathtaking.

Dallas Green has said that its a story about suicide.

"So this is continuous happiness", "I always imagined it something more" Is this person thinking to him/her self that he/she cant really be happy. And no matter how you hang you try to cover your sadness with a great frame or paint.

And a great day to spend in doors is how that person spends his/her last day indoor for commiting suicide. By taking a bath with a electricXXX

The "wake up!" is the voice from his/her mother that wakes him/her at the hostpital.

"So where has all the day gone? And why are my lungs aching when I breathe? Is there something wrong with the heat? Why am I so cold? And my heart feels sick and it hurts when I speak"

Is him trying to recover from what happened. His body is hurt and same goes for his lungs from all the meds.

And the last line "Was this what we hoped for?" Is him/her asking if its a good thing that he/she is still alive.
