Attention Lyrics
Hey!
Now that you have my attention,
What are you gonna do?
You might have good intention
But they're not coming through
You're very pleased with yourself I see,
It's like a walk in the park
You weren't lying by anyone else, cause
You can see in the dark
Got a lock,
Got a key
Got some kind of vice-like grip on me
On a leash, by the reigns
Got a look that puts me in chains
I tried a subtle suggestion
A more direct approach
A can't make your connection
You're beyond reproach
No need for petty excuses
No need for dumbing around
I don't know what the use is
But what you knowing down, yeah
Got a lock,
Got a key
Got some kind of vice-like grip on me
On a leash, by the reigns
Got a look that puts me in chains
Do you like the reflection?
Do you love the reflection?
Do you like what you see?
Do you love the reflection?
Do you like what you see?
Do you like what you see?
Do you like the reflection?
Do you love the reflection?
Do you like what you see?
Do you like the attention?
Do you like the attention you get from me?
Ohhh...
Hey! Yeah! Hey! Oh!
Now that you have my attention...
Got some kind of vice-like grip on me
Hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey... (continues)
Got a lock,
Got a key.
Now that you have my attention,

This song is a fabulous blend of great music and classic lyrics. The Raconteurs seem to have left no ends untied.
Wonderful.
i have no idea. but i like the sound of it.
Sounds like he's talking about a girl who's a tease, and he's having a hard time getting through to her. She's very self absorbed and will lead a guy on, but she'll turn him down in the end. The lines "got a lock, got a key, got some kind of vice like grip on me" mean that he keeps on going back to her in spite of all this.
this song is strange. i'm not sure how i feel about it.
definately bout a girl whos a tease and he is obsessed with her. But she doesnt turn him down or accept him because she likes the attention.
I think mwrock86 is on the right track. To go further, I think it's about this women's pride and vanity. It's also about the power women can have if they use their sexuality as power over someone.
i agree with the analysis, i think it is about a suductive woman who is nothing more then a tease. I think Jack is writing from a point of view of a guy who is being lead by this women, but is questioning wiether she is just a flirt, or if she is for real. When he tries to make things more serouis, he gets turned down.
I agree with what the others are saying, but has anyone else found some kind of bondage and or dominance references in this song? Like not just metaphorically. He knows he's under her spell and he hates it and likes it at the same time too.
Am i the only one who thinks this sounds like Soundgarden.
i don't think it belongs on the album. it isn't a bad song. it just seems like the odd man out.
is it really "I don't know what the use is / But what you knowing down, yeah"? What should that mean? I read on another site "but what you're throwing down".
can anyone confirm/disprove please? I'm making a poster with the lyrics on it and would kick myself making a mistake here... thanks
