Rainbow Veins Lyrics
High rise, veins of the avenue
Bright eyes and subtle variations of blue
Everywhere is balanced there like a rainbow above you
Street lights glisten on the boulevard
And cold nights make staying alert so hard
For heaven's sake, keep me awake so I won't be caught off guard
Clearly I am a passerby but I'll find a place to stay
Dear pacific day, won't you take me away?
Small town hearts of the New Year
Brought down by gravity, crystal clear
City fog and brave dialogue converge on the frontier
Make haste, I feel your heartbeat
With new taste for speed, out on the street
Find a road to a humble abode where both of our routes meet
The silver sound is all around and the colors fall like snow
The feeling of letting go, I guess we'll never know
Cheer up and dry your damp eyes and tell me when it rains
And I'll blend up that rainbow above you and shoot it through your veins
Cause your heart has a lack of color and we should've known
That we'd grow up sooner or later cause we wasted all our free time alone
Your nerves gather with the altitude
Exhale the stress so you don't come unglued
Somewhere there is a happy affair, a ghost of a good mood
Wide eyed, panic on the getaway
The high tide could take me so far away
VCR's and motorcars unite on the Seventh Day
A popular gauge will measure the rage of the new Post-Modern Age
Cause somewhere along the line all the decades align
We were the crashing whitecaps
On the ocean
And what lovely seaside holiday, away
A palm tree in Christmas lights
My emotion
Struck a sparkling tone like a xylophone
As we spent the day alone
Cheer up and dry your damp eyes and tell me when it rains
And I'll blend up that rainbow above you and shoot it through your veins
Cause your heart has a lack of color and we should've known
That we'd grow up sooner or later 'cause we wasted all our free time alone
Bright eyes and subtle variations of blue

ok. i've listened to this song over twenty times and i think i've come up with a meaning. to me, i think its about a girl, who's just an average typical girl, but she's scared to live and take chances in her life because of something unfortunate that happened in the past. and this guy is fond of her. he's taken away every time he sees her. but he also is scared to let lose and live life. he also worries a lot. and just wants to escape reality. the line "Dear pacific day, won’t you take me away?" means he just wants someone to show him how to live. to show him to let go and not worry too much. to just leave it all behind. and he thinks the girl can help her and he can help the girl. he likes her and thinks that even though she's a great and wonderful girl, she should let lose more and take more chances. and he thinks he should do the same. basically just to live life to the fullest. he wants her to let go of everything she's scared of because he has. he wants her to take a chance on him. he's saying that if they get together, they'll brighten up each other lives. i guess the first time they tried to come out of their shells together. it didn't work out that well. "The silver sound is all around and the colors fall like snow. The feeling of letting go, I guess we’ll never know." i think in this song "color" represents, living life, or the spark. so i guess they felt like the spark wasn't there. and they're about to give up on letting go. they think it's too hard and they can't do it. but i guess he's more optimistic than her and he's like don't worry about it, we can try again. he's determined and feels like they can be together. that they can brighten each other lives. "Cheer up and dry your damp eyes and tell me when it rains. And I’ll blend up that rainbow above you and shoot it through your veins." the rainbow, is like the colors. he feels he can put the happiness and drive back in her life that she once had. they also wasted all that time apart and now they can be together. hence the line "Cuz your heart has a lack of color and we should’ve known. That we’d grow up sooner or later cuz we wasted all our free time alone" i guess she becomes nervous and he tells her to let go of those nerves and be happy. somewhere deep inside her, that happiness is hidden. she just has to believe its there and reveal it. "Somewhere there is a happy affair, a ghost of a good mood." then i guess she ends up showing that side of her. and they end up together and happy. they both loosened up and are starting to take chances.

EXACTLY my thoughts.

I don't know how you guys are comparing death cab and postal service to owl city. :/. owl city gives you a mental picture of what he's singing about, i think that's pretty cool.
I have to disagree about saying "artists should really tell people what their songs are about." I know that I for one, use songs to describe my own personal experiences in my life. And as it seems, I have a song for everything, weird huh? But anyways, leaving songs a mystery helps a lot of people kinda figure themselves out by making the lyrics mean what they want them to. Just my opinion :D
this is such an upbeat song. i like dancing to it. :]
i'm sure he was definitely influenced by the postal service but that doesn't mean it's a rip off
This is my favorite by Owl City.
I doubt this song has anything to do with drugs, its just a metaphor.
ITS NOT ABOUT HEROIN try to stay with me here- her heart has a lack of color he wants to put color in it he says he'll shoot rainbow through her veins BECAUSE veins go to the heart NOT BECAUSE theyre on drugs therefore the rainbow goes to her heart, making it colorful! See how that works?

'Cheer up and dry your damp eyes and tell me when it rains And I’ll blend up that rainbow above you and shoot it through your veins'
That's just amazing
Damn, alasan94, get it! ;P
Such a good song.
I think this song really means that he wants to brighten someone's life. That their life may be dull, but something colorful and amazing will happen to them.
And all this crap about refrences to drugs NEEDS to stop. This sonf is really inspiring to me and all these drug realteed comments are just ruining it.
