Allow me to exaggerate a memory or two
Where summer's lasted longer than, longer than we do
When nothing really mattered
Except for me to be with you
But in time we all forgot and we all grew

Your melody sounds as sweet
As the first time it was sung
With a little bit more character for show
And by the time your father's heard
Of all the wrong you've done
Then I'm putting out the lantern
Find your own way back home

If I'd forgotten how to sing
Before I'd sung this song
I'll write it all across this wall
Before my job is done
And I'll even have the courtesy of admitting I was wrong
As the final words before I'm dead and gone

You've never been so divine
In accepting your defeat
And I've never been more scared to be alone
If love is not enough to put my enemies to sleep
Then I'm putting out the lantern
Find your own way back home

Allow me to exaggerate a memory or two Where summer's lasted longer than Longer than we do Where nothing really mattered Except for me to be with you But in time we all forgot And we all grew

    • hes kind of taking us back to those good old summers back when he was a teenager and he only cared about him and his girl, but they both moved on, losing that flame

Your melody sounds as sweet As the first time it was sung With a little bit more character for show And by the time your father's heard Of all the wrong you've done Then I'm putting out the lantern Find your own way back home -the first 3 lines r about how shes still the same girl and he still knows why he loved her, the only thing that has changed is she put in a bit more acting to entertain ppl (maybe sounding stupid-like many girls enjoy doing these days), and shes been fooling around w/ some guys and some day her dads gonna hear and not be 2 happy about it, and he says hes not gonna be there to help her through it, hes moved on

If I've forgotten how to sing Before I sung this song I'll write it all across the wall Before my job is done And I'll even have the courtesy Of admitting I was wrong As the final words before I'm dead and gone -hes pretty much saying that hell do w/e it takes to get his point across, and hell admit that it wasnt right to leave her, but hes not going to until hes on his death bed (hes stubborn)

You've never been so divine In accepting your defeat And I've never been more scared to be alone If love is not enough to put my enemies to sleep Then I'm putting out the lantern Find your own way back home -hes saying how shes taking the dump gracefully and not making a big deal about it and how hes the one that is having issues w/ the break up, and how hes wanting her to be w/ him now but she wont so hes mad at her and will have a grudge against her his whole life, which means when she comes crying for help, he wont help, like when her dad finds out about everything, he wont comfort her or anything cuz she wasnt there for him when he broke up w/ her!
