Lights has said that this song is about an element in your life that you cannot live without, and when you have to, you lose control. It could be anything: parents, friends, boyfriend/girlfriend, even religious beliefs, or something supernatural, and whatever it is helps you follow your "road" or path, in a sense. With the line "I can't follow the way she moves" lots of people thought it was about friendship or lesbian themed, but Lights has said that the path you must follow is what "she" was, though she has no problem with anyone's sexual orientation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Drive_My_Soul).

When I first heard this song, it immediately presented a visual image broader than the simple love between two human beings. I don't usually regard lyrics with much spiritual meaning, but this song, with the way it repeatedly using 'you are the road', 'you show me where to go', 'who will drive my soul', I can't help but associate it with her strong religious background. In Christian belief, it is often mentioned that Jesus is 'the way', 'the light', and of course, Jesus is the Lord of a Christian's soul. Without him, the writer feels loss when she goes through the valley of life. This is a song encouraging to many people who encounter adversities at this moment to seek religious guidence.

I think that this song resembles a road. She doesn't know any other road. She doesn't know where to turn when "he's" gone. She is wondering if she is going to lose it when he's gone. When he is there with her she knows where to go and everything seems clear.
This song reminds me of my crush. We are friends but i only see him at work. I think he likes me too. I hate it when i'm done work for the week and i won't see him until the next week. Right now he doesnt work because he has football at his school so i barely see him anymore and i miss him a lot!
As I usually find with most of LIGHTS' songs, there are two ways to look at the person she's talking about.
In this case, this person is her life, her hope, her road, her way, her light. This could either be a human being, like a boyfriend, a parent, etc... Or it could be God, which is the Christian way to look at it. So I think that depending on who you are, you can interpret it to whatever you like. You can fit it to what's going on in your life at the moment.
In the video it is her dad in the astronaut suit so I think she is personally talking about her relationship with her father not any romantic relationship but I agree with fadedmemories I think it could be about anything e.g. religious beliefs, boyfriend/girlfriend, friends, parents, etc that acted as your guide or comfort but now that you don't have it you don't know what to do and don't know where to turn and you are lost.
The line "I can't follow the way she moves" most likely refers to the moon. Lights uses the moon as a metaphor for a flawless state of being that no human can reach the standard of, meaning that one can't be perfect, and is bound to go through troubles in life. But whoever they have trust upon, or encourages them, is the light that makes them hopeful through times of trouble (:

This song is amazing. I think this is about people being in a relationship, and they just love being with that person so much, that when they're gone, they wouldn't know what they would do. they can't think right, sleep right, see right, if they aren't there. because life wouldn't feel right if it wasn't for them.
I'm embarrassed to say this, but when I first heard this song on the Old Navy commercial, I just had to look it up. Her voice is just soo amazing... dolledupwords__x pretty much summed it all up
this is a great song from her. i saw her im Montreal like 3 days ago. shes the nicest person you'll ever meet. if you ever have the chance to see her preform do it she'll make your life.
