You Could Write a Book Lyrics

Aaah, Aaah, Aaah, Aaah.

How'd you get so smart?
Wax and candles and burning cobwebs,
I guess you broke my heart,
But then sometimes I think that's all it's there for.

Oooh, Oooh.

It's goodnight to the sunlight,
To the fruit trees.
I'm alright.
We need to proof read,
So the publisher agrees
That you could write a novel
Tonight.

When you get that look,
It makes me know you're really thinking.
About to read your book,
But first I think I need to learn how to read you.

Oooh, Oooh

It's goodnight to the sunlight,
To the fruit trees.
I'm alright.
We need to proof read,
So the publisher agrees
That you could write a novel

You could write a novel.
You could write a novel,
Tonight.

Woah-oowoah
Woah-oowoah

Tonight

the original off the Grace & Gwyn EP is 100 times better than the version on pershing.

I've gotta say, I might just like this album better than Broom. While this particular song is probably one of my least favorites on Pershing, I am in love with the majority of the other songs, especially Glue Girls, Modern Mystery, Some Constellation, and Think I Wanna Die. In most cases I think that the production has benefited the music, although they have lost a bit of that old makeshift basement recording studio sound that everyone seems to love about Broom. As for the melodies, I thought many were more unique than those on Broom, but if you thought they were boring that's your own opinion. Any band's second album is always going to be different from the first as they mature and gain popularity, and not all of the old fans are going to like the new sound. So you can take it or leave it, and even if you don't like Pershing at least you've still got Broom.

This song sums up my general attitude toward the album entire: crappy lighthearted rock glazed over with production to hide the boring melodies, weak songwriting, and ultimate lack of originality; turning SSLYBY into something more akin to, gasp, The Get Up Kids--which actually makes me shiver while writing--rather than keeping true to their unique sound on Broom. Awful. Awful. Such a disappointing album--except for the Single, which is sadly the only positive thing on the album
