We're Gonna Rise Lyrics

nothing you came to believe
or what you decided last night
still the sun shines
hits my shield and ignites

we're gonna rise
the sun shines
we're gonna rise
feel the light on my face
out of rank, out of range

no counsel, no grand strategy
no sword to fall on
no rules about our dull fate
just the light on my face

we're gonna rise
feel the light on my face
we're gonna rise
feel the light on my face
out of rank, out of range

speak of man's great thoughts
i'll tell the story or not

nothing you came to believe
or what you decided last night
still the sun shines
the sun shines

we're gonna rise
feel the light on my face
we're gonna rise
feel the light on my face

I think this song is about a lack of control, the realization that there's no great story in life or in history, simply events...and yet there are still simple pleasures. And it's sort of confusing about how to interpret things like "light on your face" when you're thinking about how there's no "grand strategy". when imposing meaning on things that have no meaning has lost its value but life is still sadly beautiful.

Great comment, purpleandgreen -- perhaps an extension of the same theme she explored on "Divine Hammer" (which is about looking for divinity, proof for the existence of god/heaven, and finding nothing).

Think the line "backed our pain" is actually "No rules, fact or faith"

All of this album, as i see it, its about their parents, especially about their mother, since kim said she had alzheimer's. the whole album it's about death and it's friends.
