Pearl Lyrics
Circle of color
Beautiful girl
Daughter of yellow
Mother of pearl
I used to know her
She gave me the time
Then she just left me
I thought she was mine
On my mind, liquid pearl
Coolest blue, fire world
But I can't seem to
Change her mind
Son of a secret
Sacred child
Daughter of yellow
Mother of pearl
She used to love me
I gave her my soul
Those delicate hours
She lost control
On my mind, liquid pearl
Coolest blue, fire world
But I can't seem to
Change her mind
Son of a pearl
Green deep sea
She knows what she means to me
Will her heart ever burn anymore
Burn me out from the inside
Turn me upside down
I've got to satisfy my soul
Satisfy my soul
Beautiful girl
Daughter of yellow
Mother of pearl
She gave me the time
Then she just left me
I thought she was mine
Coolest blue, fire world
Change her mind
Sacred child
Daughter of yellow
Mother of pearl

Those delicate hours

Coolest blue, fire world
But I can't seem to

Green deep sea

Turn me upside down
I've got to satisfy my soul

Okay, here's my take on it: 'Mother of pearl' apparently refers to some sort of high quality cocaine, I think 'daughter of yellow' could then be heroin. The whole song describes a high achieved from mixing those substances, a practice known as speedballing.
Coolest blue, fire world -> the contrast between upper and downer drugs Sacred child -> the high resulting from mixing the drugs Then she just left me/I thought she was mine -> tolerance buildup made the high lose its appeal
It's the good old woman/drug metaphor and reminds me of songs like 'There She Goes' by The La's or 'Golden Brown' by The Stranglers. I think the last verse is pretty self-explanatory if you keep this theory in mind.
This is the most beautiful song I've ever heard.
Agreed with the previous comment. This song makes me wanna stop time and dance for hour. Very weird sensation, actually. As for the meaning, obviously about a girl breaking up with a man. Although he's kinda hurt, he understands her decision.
One of my all time favorites. Just saw Chapterhouse play it live a few days ago; life changing.
