Outerspace Lyrics

hey are you back from outer space
to make up for all the lonely winter days
oh i never meant to make a scene
i only wanted you to stay

it's colder with the windows down
and it's quiet when you drive me home
with nothing to say for hours
because we know we're both alone

we'll speak louder now
but it's not like there's much to tell
and we're making plans for something else
and newer things i won't know about until now

oh you don't say much
oh is it too far

This is what I think of when I hear the song (Bare with me)

"hey are you back from outer space to make up for all the lonely winter days oh i never meant to make a scene i only wanted you to stay"

the person had to leave for whatever reason, and the singer (or whatever she's writing form the perspective of) made a big deal about it, maybe going to drastic measure to make them stay, but the person leaves anyway. But the person came back (From outerspace), but more out of guilt than anything. And it's basically saying how awkward and weird things have become, like they'll be in the car together, and instead of talking all the time like they used to, they'll just be silent, not knowing what to say.

"We'll speak louder now, but it's not like there's much to tell." I think that maybe they're maybe like, trying to talk about anything just to break the silence, trying to fill the air, even though they know the words mean nothing.

"and we're making plans for something else and newer things i won't know about until now" I think at this point, they can both see that the situation is hopeless, and that they both need to move on, the attempt is not working.

"oh you don't say much oh is it too far" The singer has been trying to fill the air with conversation, but the person doesn't talk much, and proably wonders why they came back..

I think the 'Oh, is it too far" bit means two things to me. 1) I think it could be saying 'have we/I gone to far?', this relationship (or whatever) has been completely sucked dry of gas, and they're not going to get anymore else out of it, and you shouldn't have come back just out of guilt.. or 2) Sticking with my thoughts of them being in a car, she could be asking the person whether their destination is too far away, and whether either can cope with being together in such an awkward/strained atmosphere, and whether she has pushed the person too far...

Just me thoughts, anyways...

I'm sorry if that doesn't make any sense, there are a lot of broken sentances up there, I did a lot of cutting stuff out and adding things in and I hope it still makes sense

It's a wonderful song
