China Doll Lyrics
She's sweet like honey
Sour like democracy
She don't want your money
She needs your sympathy
She'll be your greatest lover
But she doesn't belong to you
She's unlike any other
She doesn't belong to you
Oh
She's your China doll
She's patient
But won't be for long
She's hopeful
But time's running low
She's gone before you know
She's the alarm bell ringing
She's your latest fix
The fat lady's singing
The truth and not some trick
Oh
She's your China doll
She's patient
But won't be for long
She's hopeful
But time's running low
She'll be gone before you know
Sour like democracy
She don't want your money
She needs your sympathy
She'll be your greatest lover
But she doesn't belong to you
She's unlike any other
She doesn't belong to you
She's your China doll
She's patient
But won't be for long
She's hopeful
But time's running low
She's gone before you know
She's your latest fix
The fat lady's singing
The truth and not some trick
She's your China doll
She's patient
But won't be for long
She's hopeful
But time's running low
She'll be gone before you know

"“China Doll” inspired by Al Gore’s An Inconvenient Truth. The Lyric “Sour like democracy” ends up being a sub theme of the record and my love hate relationship with politics." - Raine Maida
I don't know how to expand it from there, for, to be honest, I don't really understand the metaphors in this song. :S
My sister thinks this song is a portrait of a prostitute. It might seem a tad too literal of an interpretation, but I agree with her and think it makes perfect sense.
But if Raine Maida himself said it was 'inspired by Al Gore's An Inconvenient Truth', then I suppose my sister and I must be wrong, although I don't see what these lyrics could have to do with any idea or theme in that doc...
