Gener's Gone Lyrics
Gener's gone
let's hold a candle up for Gener
he loved you all just like his children
it broke my heart to say goodbye
where did you go?
some say you took up with the argus
prancing lightly with the stallion
no man should ever be so free
if everyone hide a hit
there'd be a poll to count up the styles in culture
if i could sing like the old man
he'd slap my back and ground me for a week
but the kids in city hall strut along
with their beauties by their side
i see them with love
with tears of age falling from my eyes
Gener's gone
could there be hope for redemption
maybe he's locked up in detention
a detention of time
fly Gener fly Gener fly
if everyone had a place
a place to go with other like-minded people
a simple place
where Betty throws the ball to Jimmy
but the new youth pushes limits
of destiny and fate
i look to them with love and forgiveness
i forgive them
Gener's gone
let's hold a candle up for Gener
he loved you all just like his children
and it broke my heart to say goodbye
let's hold a candle up for Gener
he loved you all just like his children
it broke my heart to say goodbye
some say you took up with the argus
prancing lightly with the stallion
no man should ever be so free
there'd be a poll to count up the styles in culture
if i could sing like the old man
he'd slap my back and ground me for a week
with their beauties by their side
i see them with love
with tears of age falling from my eyes
could there be hope for redemption
maybe he's locked up in detention
a detention of time
a place to go with other like-minded people

Gener sang this great song 2007 at the Gramercy Theatre in NYC. Some lines are obviously wrong. Maybe someone can help there.
Aaron's farewell song to his moniker 'Gene Ween'. Written several years before Ween's breakup, he is concerned with age of this youthful band. He is passing the torch on to new, younger bands that will fill the void in the band's absence. It is done with a heavy heart. However there is a slight glimmer of hope in Gener's return.
