Samantha Lyrics
Samantha put down the gun
The silence here is suffocating
Samantha put down the gun
We're overrun, we're overrun
Samantha put down the gun
Our friends will not be lost forever
Samantha put down the gun
We're overrun, we're overrun
Samantha put down the gun
The last of us will still be leaving
Samantha put down the gun
We're overrun, we're overrun
The silence here is suffocating
Samantha put down the gun
We're overrun, we're overrun
Our friends will not be lost forever
Samantha put down the gun
We're overrun, we're overrun
The last of us will still be leaving
Samantha put down the gun
We're overrun, we're overrun

It seems as though they're fighting for a cause, but the odds are so unbelievable stacked against their favor, that it's not really worth killing the opposition over. There is an underlying sense that despite the overwhelming force, good will eventually overcome evil, even if they don't win this battle
this really looks like he's telling samantha, who's about to shoot herself, possibly because she feels like her friends have left her and there's no point to life anymore, that she shouldnt shoot herslf because 1. her friends will come back eventually and 2. its not her place to take her home
acctually that's not what this song is about at all. I'm good friends with this whole family and asked them what it is about. so sorry to tell you, but your theory is wrong.
i think the first post is wrong, but i think that is how most people would interpret it listening to it from the backseat of their friends car or some similar situation. Anyway, i think the story of this song is more of a fighting/shooting one. As follows: samantha and others are trying to take a stand for something via gun use/intimidation, but they find that the opposing force is too strong when they execute their master plan. The "others" seem to realize this quickly during the "fight" but samantha is too passionate and will fight this opposing force to death RIGHT THEN. Its either her or it. No one wants her to "die" so this song is essentially the others, or maybe just one person telling samantha to put down her gun, we dont want you to die, we obviously cant win, please stop fighting, today is not our day etc.
as far as what inspires this song or what it means under the lyrics storyline, i have no idea, but would like to know.
