Living In Another World Lyrics

Better parted - I see people crying.
Truth gets harder - there's no sense in lying.
Help me find a way from this maze.
I can't help myself.

When I see tenderness before you left - (Forget).
That even breaking up was never meant - (Forget).
But only angels look before they tread - (Forget).
Living in another world to you- living in another world to you-
Living in another world to you.

Better parted - I see people hiding.
Speech gets harder - there's no sense in writing.
Help me find a way from this maze
I can't help myself.

Did I see tenderness where you saw hell? - (Forget).
Did I see angels in the hand I held? - (Forget).
God only knows what kind of tale you'd tell - (Forget).
Living in another world to you- living in another world to you-
Living in another world to you.

One of the best songs to come out of the 80's and with a great haunting sound ! I think this track is about a one-sided relationship, being in love with someone who doesn't feel the same and not really understanding why. A fantastic track !!

My Interpretation

It can hardly be called an interview, but on Italian TV an interviewer asked Mark Hollis about this song and Mark said it's about the life and work of Jean-Paul Sartre. Here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Bla-2pA-4o at 8:40

Song Meaning

He obviously can't let the terminated relationship go. Heartbroken, etc.

He's obsessed, fixated, possibly deranged in his denial, wishful thinking, etc. And the results are fascinating. She'll probably get a restraining order at some point.

My favorite Talk Talk song.

I was devastated to hear that Mark Hollis had died. He was only 64. I could have imagined him living into his late years, planting a crop on a small farm away from the music industry he so loathed. His lyrics, especially his later work reflected a deep spirituality and a sincerity rarely found in art, or anywhere for that matter.

This is just a general comment, not specifically related to the song, which in retrospect does have some connection to this. I just looked it up to confirm what I thought he was singing. He never made a great effort to be understood, either in his singing style or his music. Guess that's why I Ioved his music so much. It made sense on a level that words don't operate in. Yet he still found the right ones to place against it. Love, always.
