My Favorite Year Lyrics

You in white and me in gray go well tonight
So let’s linger here
This used to be my favorite palm tree
I was starving in that shit-house, the world
But now it’s gone and the whole point of everything's the moving on
Well, let’s see a calm and a storm and
okay, a star’s born - now let me just sit here ‘neath these omens
On three and four and...
Beware the company you reside in
Nicole, she, blasted on ecstasy
Some East-Pender harbor
circa 1993
It was a good year

It was a very good year
And now it’s gone
You say the whole point of everything’s the moving on
And I can’t help but feel somewhat opposed to this
My shit has been torched by fascists,
or in some small way, we’re all traitors to our own kind

i love the female "la la la la la la"s that kick in with "Nicole, she....." in the background, what agreat contrast to dan's rough voice, and then the "do do do do do dooooowhoooooo"s in the background over the riff at the end, also love the acoustic break, finale, reminds me so much and so strongly of the similar beauty at the end of "Rubies"

I think that's actually Dan's voice doing the falsetto-- he does the same thing a lot in his songs with the New Pornos.

Also, that last line-- wouldn't it be, "My shithouse has been torched by fascists," referring to the world described at the beginning?

Anyway, amazing song with minimalist but potent lyrics. If there were any justice in the world, this would break Destroyer into the mainstream (although I'm not sure Mr. Bejar really wants that).

This song sounds great if it's being played in the month of November.

I especially enjoy the "Beware the company you reside in" part. It's fun to say it, or sing it!

Anyone else thinks this refers to a crappy year? or am I being negative? ... Beyond the lyrics, it's the chaotic atmosphere of the track makes feel so ... a year that felt good despite being .. errm .. not all that good ... am I making any sense at all ?
