As Long As It's Not About Love

I feel the song is misunderstood. My opinion is that it's simply about falling in love. How a guy reluctant to fall in love meets this person and "Only magic could take away my heart ... I am always afraid for my heart" shows that his heart was tough to take away... he doesn't believe in true love .. feels like love is a fairy tale..

If you just read through the verses you'll see how it got stronger ... "But I must keep my heart from my mind" - he's trying to stay true to himself .. "And the magic was stronger than the heart ... Oh, I can't run away with my heart" - he's starting to feel overpowered by his emotions.. "Cause maybe it's all above love" this line says it all.

I think it speaks about a person who has been hurt in the past and is afraid to let his spirit free in his new relationship...he wants to be sure that the man next to him,really deserves to be loved and trusted...

This is about once being heartbroken over a girl, and finding someone new that hes fallen in love with. He wants to run away with her forever, but afraid that she'll hurt him in the end.

For me, this song is about one's discovery of the inevitable decay of love through his own desensitization to the concept of love, presumably brought on by someone whom he was previously in love with who did him wrong and broke his heart. "Lay beside me now, and tell me lies.........as long as it's not about love...". This decay is represented as the "magic". But as his life goes on, he tries helplessly to hold on to the love that is fading from his soul so he may exist in a blissful state of stillness in time ("Shall we sail off the edge of the world, fall forever, and never look behind"), as he realizes that love is the key to peace and happiness in a universal sense, and that the reason for our imperfections is our disconnection to the true meaning of love. "If the magic comes, between us, and we never meet again, take a part of me away, 'cause maybe it's all about love."
