I think this song is about a relationship with a girl who just think about herself. "It's the fame that holds you in vain, but in your letter it's playing your game" maybe means that she knows that she's popular, rich and hot, and thinks that she can do whatever she wants to anybody. And in this case she's just playing with his feelings.
