Topeka Lyrics

I found God
In a Cadallidic converter
In Topeka
On a Monday night

I taste blood
Every time I think of summer
If that's true
I'm in for quite a treat

'Cause I'm bagging for the sun
In a mid-Missouri winter
Waiting desperately
To get outta town
No you can't
Keep a good man down

You've been known
To obsess over the future
Do you think
You'll get away from the past
As you stone yourself
Just to make it through 'till midnight
Consider what you might have found
You think you've
Got a good thing now

I found God
In a Cadallidic converter
In Topeka
On a Monday night

Every saint has a past
Every sinner has a future
So you know
It keeps me hanging around
No you can't
Keep a good man down

From here on
You can count on all things going
The way they must've
From the start
All you feel
Is the current flowing through you
And seizing
Your infected heart

I found God
In a Cadallidic converter
In Topeka
On a Monday night
I found God
In a Cadallidic converter
In Topeka
On a Monday night

Every saint has a past
Every sinner has a future
Saint has a past
Every sinner has a future
Saint has a past
Every sinner has a future
Saint has a past
Every sinner has a future
Sinner has a future

it's catalytic. ^^

Cadallidic looks like someone butchered Cadillac.

And it's "begging for the sun", not bagging.

Seriously, when you post the lyrics, ask yourself if things make sense before you put down whatever garbled bullshit you think you're hearing.

From what I've gathered from someone who use to travel with the band, and whom was on tour with them at the time of this occurence. So basically they broke down in Topeka. One of the members of the band preys to some random woman as his god and well he told her what was wrong with the car. That something that she told him was the catalytic converter. that takes care of the opening verse, but for the rest of the song it kind of just resembles what i'm assuming is their beliefs.

Ferrell wrote "Topeka" about a real-life van breakdown and the mental training that helped him through it. "I had been trying to maintain a positive outlook," he says. "Of all the times we had a mini-catastrophe, I didn't lose my head over it." --from the River Front Times article about Ludo on Feb 20, 2008.

I love this song. It has such a great message about how everyone has a past and a future and that you just need to keep looking forward and growing and learning. My sister is a mechanic and she loves this song.

My Interpretation

yea i was going ot say it changed the meaning if you know what a catalytic converter does

cause its not just a part of a car but it was very revolutionary. and the cleansing aspect of it can also be kind of metaphorical while being literal???? you know?? haha i dunno

:)
