i kindof feel like this song’s about death, it feels like a goodbye song to me. the actual title of this track is The Boat Song, and there’s supposed to be a Viking tradition of sending off the dead in flaming boats. so the chorus about rowing a boat to the OTHER shore is like crossing over to the OTHER side. and then i feel like the book he’s talking about could be the Bible because he said he lent the book to help the person over night, and the Bible is definately a comfort book for some people. also light coming from open eyes, is like the realisation death is upon them, but it’s been accepted. it goes on to talk about this during the college years stanza, with holding close the fear and hate of letting go. the next couple lines seem to be talking about maybe squaring up or making peace with God or some other higher power before the person goes, as symbolized by the Sunday confession lines and then on with the line “it’s all fine with me” so in conclusion i feel like this song is about accepting death as a natural inevitability. the chorus also creates a sense that there's a greater being waiting for us when we die, like with the hold hand holding and "we". it creates a sense of comfort really. and i love how Ludo’s able to take a topic that’s kindof frightening for most and turn it into something so relaxing and pretty. love this band

bromptonxblend, your explaination makes ALOT of sense for this song, expecially since the album it comes off of is dedicated to Tim Ferrell's father who passed during the recording of it. Soooooo kudos. I like your analysis tons.

I don't know. I'm not a religious person, so I personally interpret this as a couple just holding on and making it through a difficult time together. It could be about death, I don't deny that, but I personally disagree with all the religious bits you put in. But, that's just me, if that's how you interpret it I'm not trying to change your mind. ^-^

This song wasnt sung by the normal singer Andrew Volpe, but instead Tim Ferrell as lead and Andrew in the back.

i always liked this song..because of how it sounds so calm...but now that you pointed that out that its about death it makes a lot of sense.... All-Hallows Eve...duh...spirits... and i think it does have religious meaning in it, i don't know, but i understand it that way

wow i honestly thought this song had nothing to do with death. i thought it was just kind of a cute love song type-thing.

but it does make a huge amount of sense about death. it's a really beautiful and calming song, it's really cool how he wrote a song showing acceptance and love for his father's death.
