Motor City Lyrics

My old car keeps breaking down
My new car ain't from japan
There's already too many Datsuns
In this town

Another thing that's bugging me
Is this commercial on t.v.
Says that Detroit can't make good cars
any more

Motor City

Who's driving my car?
Who's driving my car now?
Whooooo?

My army jeep is still alive
Got locking hubs and four wheel drive
Ain't got no radio, ain't got no mag wheels
Ain't got no digital clock

Ain't got no clock

The paint job is lookin' blue
The whitewalls are missing too
But I guess until I get my car back
This'll do

CHORUS

Who's driving my car now?

Cover art for Motor City lyrics by Neil Young

hi everyone. i need help to find out the meaning of these two sentences: 1)The paint job is lookin' blue 2)The whitewalls are missing too the whole song is about cars and the Asian car invasion in the early 80's. i guess is about people losing their jobs in the American car industry. is there any relation? but i'd like to know the exact meaning of paint job and whitewalls. i'm asking because i'm not a native speaker...:)

Wow, 7 years without an answer! Well, I've got half of it:

"The paint Job is looking blue" - Blue is a colour, but it's also another way of saying 'sad'. Basically he is saying the jeep needs a new paint job.
