Run (I'm a Natural Disaster) Lyrics

Yeah it's still the same
Can't you feel the pain?
When the needle hits the vein
Ain't nuthin' like the real thing
I've seen it once before, and oh it's something else, Good God

Cool breeze come on in
Sunshine come on down
These are the teardrops of a clown
The circus is coming to town
All that I'm saying is sometimes I'm more scared of myself

You better (Move!)
I said (Move!)

Chorus:

Run away!
Run away!
Run children!
Run for your life!
Run away!
Run away!
Run children!
Here it comes, said run! Alright?

Yeah I'm on the run
See what I'm coming from
When you see me come and run
Before you see what I'm running from
No time for question asking, time is passing by. Alright!

You can't win child,
We've all tried too
You've been lied to
It's already inside you
Either you run right now, or you best get ready to die

You better (Move!)
I said (Move!)

Chorus

Hurry little children
Run this way
I have got a beast at bay

(Promise me when the chance comes
You'll run as fast as you can
Don't you dare look backwards
Run as fast as you can)

Run away!
Run away!
Run children!
Run for your life!

Run away!
Run away!
Run children!
Here it comes, said run!

LOL , ok kids....ONCE AGAIN, he's not talking about drugs or pedophilia, he's talking about running from your SELF. when he says "you can't win child, we've all tried to, you've been lied to, it's already inside you" , he's saying all the things that you've been taught to do to "win" in life: chase money, success, religious salvation etc. are all leading you to a dead end. they bring you temporary happiness and can't substitute for REAL contentment/happiness which is abiding in 'yourself'. this is where the line "either you run right now or you best get ready to die" comes in. here he's saying if you dont KEEP running away from yourself and continue to take refuge in your false sense of identity, ie - name, career, skin color, ethnicity, social standing, educational backround, likes/dislikes, religious beliefs etc etc, you're going to realize that everything that you took 'yourself' to be up til that point is nothing more than your own mental projection, and who you thought you were is going to "die". he's pretty much poking fun at the inability of people to stop and realize that all this running theyre doing isnt getting them anywhere, and he's urging everybody to continue to flee from themselves because the truth of who/what you are is going to be disasterous to "you". i said good day sir !

Creamx23, I couldn't agree more with you!!! The first Gnarls Barkley song I heard was "Crazy", but since I heard it on your typical "latest hit" radio station, I never stopped to pay any attention to the lyrics.

Until a friend sent me "Going On", which caught my attention immediately with it's profound and straight to the point message, urging people to transcend the socially established mental framework and escape from it's limitations, reaching out for a superior plane of existence...Just like that, in the form of an extremely catchy, vigorous and rhythmical hymn!!!...

creamx23, dont just diss everybody else's angles on the song's meaning. it means to them what it means to them, and what they can relate to. and, you know, unless ur ceelo or danger mouse, u dont really know either, so just stop acting like you do. this is you OPINION, not a fact. with all due respect tho.

lol you hit the nail on the head kuckunniwi. we're kindred spirits. i had similar experiences with "crazy" and "going on" as well. both of those songs hit me like a wave when i 1st heard them and i at once picked up on what he was saying. i wish everyone else could see it, cuz it's really beautiful what he's putting out there for people if theyre receptive to it. i loved your "keep running" line too, you totally get "it" lol. youre awesome. thanks for your cool reply and keep spreading the message on the dangers of not...

I think this song is a combination of what Wes Gil has said about music and what everyone else is saying about drugs. Almost as if his music is a drug. The biggest drug reference in the song, "when the needle hits the vein" can also be interpreted as a musical reference. Now I know that most of you people on here are post-vinyl but when "needles" hit the groves/"veins" on a record the music plays. Nothing like the real thing.

Also, I think when the songs says "you can't win child/We've all tried too/you've been lied to/it's already inside you" could be a reference to music and how powerful it is. Sometimes when you hear a certain song you can't help but sing it or dance to it. It may just happen to be so catchy that it grabs you from the inside and forces you to act a certain way. Possibly a reference back to this very song.

One more thing: he may not mean Run in a literal sense of the word. If the song is in fact talking about music as a drug, then he is possibly just telling you to dance. Get up and "Move".

It sounds like chaotic musical panic.....brilliant!

I just heard this song two days ago and it renewed my faith in today's music. I thought all new music coming out was crap but this song hit me like a title wave!

I had no time to run!!

i am impressed. this song reminds me of a '70's song back before top 40 completly sucked. this song might be about how children should not do drugs.

Ceelo is playing with us in a sense. He's begging us to acccept inevitability as it is. The beast he has is music, it is addictive and can easily be argued as destructive. By running away it wouold seem that you could escape its charm, BUT YOU CANT! It's sound.

He illustrates his real intentions with "... these are the teardrops of a clown, the circus coming to town, allI'm saying is sometime I'm more scared of myself.

Thank you me for answering my question.

When you guys mention it, you may be right. A warning to children about drugs would be very precise.

the more i listen to this song the less i'm positive about what it means...i think that's part of gnarls' brilliance though. it reminds me alot of TV on the Radio's "Wolf Like Me".

anyway, i think that gnarls always has a main story or point behind their music. i think that, like their last album, this is more about losing their mind than music. it could be a pedophile or any person who's capable of any sort of pain to anyone.

it could be about the music, though, and i'm just being far too literal. who knows?

This is compltey different on the album version...

The first "verse" is swapped with the second...

So it ends up being:

Yeah I'm On The run See what I'm coming from When you see me come and run Before You See what I'm running from No Time for question asking, time is passing by. Alright!

You can't win child, We've all tried too You've been lied to It's already inside you Either you run right now, or you best get ready to die
