Song for Bobby Lyrics
I wanna tell you
I've always wanted to tell you
But I never had the chance to say
What I feel in my heart from the beginning till my dying day
I was fifteen, sixteen maybe
In the park I was waving my arms
You were waved this way
And you sang the song I was screaming
I wanted you to
Another time was in South Carolina
It's always been the third encore
Whose wind came roaring in
Can you tell me who were you singing for
Oh my God, can you tell me who you were singing to?
A phone call from your New York City office
You were supposedly asking to see me
And how I wanted to tell you
That I was just only four hundred miles away
Who could believe that you were calling I was in DC
I was four hundred miles behind
Backstage pass in my hand
Giving you my heart was my plan I wish I could tell you
My chance
In the middle of the stadium in Paris, France
Can I finally tell you
Can I finally tell you
To be my man
April in Paris, can I see you?
Can you please be my man?
I've always wanted to tell you
But I never had the chance to say
What I feel in my heart from the beginning till my dying day
In the park I was waving my arms
You were waved this way
And you sang the song I was screaming
I wanted you to
It's always been the third encore
Whose wind came roaring in
Can you tell me who were you singing for
Oh my God, can you tell me who you were singing to?

Who could believe that you were calling I was in DC

Can I finally tell you

To be my man
April in Paris, can I see you?
Can you please be my man?

This song is so perfect. It's how I feel about Dylan too, and the fact that it's Chan singing it only makes it that much better. The way she mimics his voice for some of the lines is just... oh boy.
Absolutely. The way she sings the song is more revealing than the lyrics. She clearly makes an effort to do a bit of Dylan impression.

The song itself is beautiful but lacks depth if you ask me. I wish she was a little more complex in describing her love of Bob.

i'm positive she says "be my man at the end" and i think the lyric is "you were wet with sweat".
God, is this song beautiful. Her love for Dylan really shines through. It's very touching, the line "from the beginning to my dying day".... she's loved him forever.
The title alludes to Bob Dylan's 'Song to Woody,' written to his idol, Woody Guthrie, I'm sure.
this song has got to be about being in love with a famous musician
Bob Dylan.
adore this song. totally dylan.
I believe the line in the middle of the second verse is "You were wet with sweat," not "You were waved this way"? Also I can never tell at the end if she says "to be my man" or "my friend"...
I think the mystery line ("you were wet with sweat") says "you were there, I swear".
In any case, Bob Dylan hands down. I love that man.
the line is:
"you were there, i could swear it"
it's the only thing that makes logical sense with the verse.
This is a beautiful song. And yes, I believe too that it is about Bob Dylan, it's pretty obvious in my opinion.
Also, the line which everyone is discussing could indeed be "You were wet with sweat", it really sounds like she's singing that, and it I think it fits with the verse. In that verse she's describing seeing Dylan live ("And you sang the song I was screaming" etc) and therefore it could very well be the line that he was wet with sweat. I think it fits perfectly. :)
However, wonderful song, I love it a lot.
