Praying To The Wrong God Lyrics

she don't know you, but swears she knows your type
got a mouth full of opinions and most are wrong,
but they all sound right
and the ring around her finger is only there to make you wish you were
the one for her

so i'm praying
to keep me from breaking
from being another loser helpless at her side
and it's crazy
it's like no one can save me this time
she's got me praying to the wrong God every night

i bet there's a reason why no one knows her name
if she don't tell you, she never has to change
she's allergic to "i love yous"
and staying in one place for too long
if you blink she's gone

so i'm praying
to keep me from breaking
from being another loser helpless at her side
and it's crazy
it's like no one can save me this time
she's got me praying to the wrong God every night
praying to the wrong God
every night

make her make me mean more
or make her go away
make her make me mean more
or make her go away

and i'm praying
to keep from breaking
from being another loser helpless at her side
and it's crazy
it's like no one can save me this time
she's got me praying to the wrong God every night
(praying to the wrong God)
she's got me praying to the wrong God every night (every night)

I just noticed one small thing:

On the first line it's "She don't know you, but swears she knows your type" You just missed the "know".

I kind of have a few ideas on the meaning but I don't feel like typing them out right now, but I may if no one else says what they think it is.

Btw, good job on the lyrics. Good song.

I think this song describes a girl he likes for all the wrong reasons, and it doesn't help that she's married or engaged to someone else. I think that his "praying to the wrong God" is like him guiltily wishing that she would break a commitment to be with him. He comments through the whole song about how she's really not that good of a person (bad opinions, migrant, and hates I love you's) but he's got this somewhat unexplainable desire for her even amidst her commitment to another and all her bad traits. I'm not aware of too many other songs with this theme. This is a great song and McLaughlin is amazing at what he does.
