Gorgeous Lyrics

In a perfect world
In another time
In a far off place
We wouldn't need to justify

Everything we are
And all the we believe
We could finally be
Whoever we both want to be

When we can't be hurt
When we can't be seen
I will call you close
And you will reach for me

When all of the beauty turns to pain
When all of the madness falls like rain
As long as we crash and we collide
We will be gorgeous, you and I

Through the windowpane
Through the bedroom door
The city wants to fight
But it can't touch us anymore

We have come so far
We have shed our skin
The more that's taken from us now
The more we have to give

And when we can't be hurt
And when we can't be seen
I will call you close
And you will reach for me

When all of the beauty turns to pain
When all of the madness falls like rain
As long as we crash and we collide
We will be gorgeous, you and I

And when we are drowning in the noise
I'm gonna stop to find your voice
As long as we crash and we collide
We will be gorgeous, you and I

(We'll be gorgeous)
(We'll be gorgeous)
In a perfect time
(We'll be gorgeous)

Oh, and when we lose our faith
And all that's beautiful
You lift me to this place
Oh

When all of the beauty turns to pain
When all of the madness falls like rain
As long as we crash and we collide
We will be gorgeous, gorgeous, yea

And when we are drowning in the noise
I'm gonna stop and find your voice
As long as we crash and we collide
We will be gorgeous, yea we will be gorgeous

And when I lose my faith
I don't know what to do
You lift me to this place
And make me feel so beautiful

As long as you're right here by my side
We will be gorgeous, you and I

So at first, I thought this was just about living in a crazy world and they're still gorgeous as a couple even through the chaos, but another thought came to mind. After they had gotten married they were threatened because of being an interracial couple, and I thought it could be about that too. Like, she sings "When all of the beauty turns to pain, when all of the madness falls like rain." They are a beautiful couple and they're in love, so that in and of itself is beautiful, but it becomes painful because people can't look past their differences. She still sees that they'll be gorgeous even when others don't understand though.

Anyways, 2 different thoughts. Either way, I love the song.

I had the same general line of thought, MusicisOxygen, but I actually thought it may have been about homosexual couples. Though I can see why Interracial couples may also come to mind.

My Interpretation

They also received threats when they announced her pregnancy and the birth of their child. I think she's taking her personal experience and making a statement about the privacy of relationships, whether they be interracial, homosexual, or just disapproved of. I think that's why she includes "the city wants to fight but it can't touch us anymore". Just because people don't like the fact that she's white and he's black doesn't erase the fact that they love each other.
