Livin' Th' Dream Lyrics

Yesterday I turned 23
The date didn’t mean that much to me
Then I started adding figures up in my head
It seems the cost of dreaming's left me in the red.

Because of alcohol I’ve shared sixteen beds
There’s a five year reunion hanging over my head
At least 11’000 people think I’m something I’m not
The courage to let them down isn’t something I’ve still got.

Sometimes I want to cheat but I don’t
I want to quite but I won’t
‘cause I made this bed.

Give me a shovel you’ll be amazed
At how fast I dig a grave
Baby just, lay in it.

You’re only brave ‘til you’re scared
You’re only unique until compared
To every other worthless fuck trying to
Crawl into bed tonight.

You can’t afford to live like this (Yes we can, yes we can)
You can’t be dumb enough to dream so big (Yes we can, yes we can)
Because we’ll sail through the sleazy seas
Past all the casting couches, rug burned knees
No I’m not done yet, you know I’m only getting started.

You can’t afford to live like this
You can’t be dumb enough to dream so big.
Yeah we’ll sail through the sleazy seas
Past all the casting couches, rug burned knees
No I’m not done yet.

You can’t afford to live like this (Yes we can, yes we can)
You can’t be dumb enough to dream so big (Yes we can, yes we can)
Because we’ll sail through the sleazy seas
Past all the casting couches, rug burned knees
No I’m not done yet, you know I’m only getting started.

its about him and his career in music.

His dream to make it in the music industry has basically made him broke but he is not gunna stop fighting his way to the top

brix9: It is most definitely "PASSED the casting couches" pronunciation was right, but the spelling was wrong.

susiejoy: yes, they are.

wigwamgrl: He's 23, so he'd be going to his 5-year high school reunion and he realizes he hasn't done anything with his life yet, so that makes a whoe lot more sense than "five-year union."

Anyone else feel like he says "she can't afford to live like this..." ?

Also why would you sail through a sleazy scene and not sail through a sleazy sea?

i love this song.

this song is not about a girl. it's about someone's drive to make it without having to stoop to all of the other bullshit and how no one else believes that that is a realistic goal.

the girl is just part of the mix.

I think the lyrics are:

"rug burned knees"

and isn't it "You can't be dumb enough to dream so big"?

Those just make sense to me.

Skafan is correct on both accounts

Thanks for the corrections:) I updated it, it makes much more sense.

I think the songs about growing up and how he's 23 and still living in a dream world and needs to get himself together and become something. But still he's not gonna give up on his dream no matter what even if there's gonna be hard times ("Sleazy seas" & "rug burned knees")

Rug Burned knee isn't about him. IT does makes sense. I think he's talking about a girl thats been throwing herself at guys like him and such and rug burned knees is talking about her being on her knees to many times to count. It's about a girl.

He says you cant live like this. And he's questioning her, and the background vocals are responding basically.

the song kinda reminds me of how some girls whore themselves out to get things they want. hence the "Yeah we’ll sail through the sleazy seas Past all the casting couches, rug burned knees" it's kinda saying that you can't live like this forever.
