The Last Words Lyrics
Are we
Are we just selfish
For wanting to keep you
Where we are
Just where you left us
You're seeing all the things I'd die to see
(all the things I'd die to see)
Everybody finds it necessary
To say how much you loved me
As if I didn't know so deeply
Can you see
Evidence of perfection
Look past the circumstance
And find some meaning
Find some meaning
If only this song could capture
The peace you are seeing
If only this song could capture
The hope we are seeking
Everybody finds it necessary
To say how much you loved me
As if I didn't know so deeply
Can you see
Evidence of perfection
Look past the circumstance
And find some meaning
Find some meaning
Can you see
Evidence of perfection

Look past the circumstance
And find some meaning
And find some meaning
Can you see

Look past the circumstance
And find some meaning
And find some meaning
Just love me and let me sleep
Just love me and let me sleep
Just love me and let me sleep
Just love me and let me sleep
Are we just selfish
For wanting to keep you
Where we are
Just where you left us
You're seeing all the things I'd die to see

I think this is about a close friend or a family member passing away (possibly in pain). The message I read in this song is that even though it hurts to lose someone, if they are a Christian, we know they are in a better place. When they sing about looking past the circumstances, I think they are referring to the verse in the Bible that says God works all things together for the good of those who love Him, so even though there may be no evidence of a plan, that doesn't mean there isn't one.
Just my take on it....
"Are we Are we just selfish For wanting to keep you Where we are Just where you left us You're seeing all the things I'd die to see (all the things I'd die to see)"
-Someone close has passed away and he's ovbiously upset about it, but not wanting to be selfish because he knows that person is in a better place (Heaven) and he wishes he could join that person.
"Everybody finds it necessary To say how much you loved me As if I didn't know so deeply"
-People telling him that the person who died loved him so much and he's getting tired of hearing it because he already knew that.
"Can you see Evidence of perfection Look past the circumstance And find some meaning Find some meaning"
-Coming to the realization that their death fit perfectly into God's plan, and having to look past what everyone that was left mourning lost and how much more the person who died gained.
"If only this song could capture The peace you are seeing If only this song could capture The hope we are seeking"
-He wishes there was a way to experience and share even the slighest amount of peace and happiness that his loved one is seeing and feeling yet at the same time wishing he could show this same loved one just how much the want reassurance that they will be together again one day.
"Just love me and let me sleep"
-Asking his loved one to continue to love him and to watch over him.
I'm not religious but it does seem to have a little religious POV of "God" cuz they say
"Are we Are we just selfish For wanting to keep you Where we are Just where you left us You're seeing all the things I'd die to see (all the things I'd die to see)"
"you" would also mean "God" and He left us here.
"Can you see Evidence of perfection Look past the circumstance And find some meaning Find some meaning" He's perfect...sooo yeah go figure
OR....
uhh idk i can't think of any kind of interpretation. its hard to interpret in any other way outside of the religious aspect but it seems to fit perfectly.
Well one I know that jeremy wrote this about his dad or grandpa one because he even dedicates to him on the cd! And two I am almost positive that this is what the song means:
"Are we Are we just selfish For wanting to keep you Where we are Just where you left us You're seeing all the things I'd die to see (all the things I'd die to see"
are we (the people here on earth) selfish for wanting to keep you (the loved one who passed) here in this place that he left us at which is awful compared to where he is at now in heaven with the Lord! He is seeing everything we'd die to see heaven which there is only one word to describe it PERFECT, and seeing God in all His wonder and beauty!
"Everybody finds it necessary To say how much you loved me As if I didn't know so deeply"
this one is pretty easy to figure out. I mean there are just peaople around telling him how much his dad or grandpa loved him as if he didn't already know that so well!
"Can you see Evidence of perfection Look past the circumstance And find some meaning Find some meaning"
"If only this song could capture The peace you are seeing If only this song could capture The hope we are seeking"
"Just love me and let me sleep"
