Anything/Sell That Thing Lyrics

Now he's climbed up as high as he can climb in his own mind
And he leans over, leans over he leans over the side.
He can't endure the unbearable exaltation.
There's nothing to decide
He leans over inside

The War correspondent
He phoned it in and got called on it
He got caught weeping keeping watch
This can't depend on me, the defend of his enemies

We're each free to choose between two sides
The first side says we're each free to choose between two sides
The other side of these two sides that we're each free to choose betweens the side that says what other side

Now he's climbed up as high as he can climb, his hotel side
And he leans over, leans over looking up to the sky
At my best my own words might surprise me
Save a few times a day
And these words are not my own
More than others, they say

The war correspondent
Without trying on some other minds
Wearing leeches if it works
His own unfamiliar mind made up of a need to cite

We're each free to choose between two sides
The first side says we're each free to choose between two sides
The other side of these two sides that we're each free to choose betweens the side that says what other side

Cover art for Anything/Sell That Thing lyrics by Make Believe

I did this song by ear because it's so hard to find lyrics for bands like make believe. And i did it because i know this song is about the evolution debate. The album cover is a fish with legs with a caption that says "of course". If you look at the lines:

We're each free to choose between two sides The first side says we're each free to choose between two sides The other side of these two sides that we're each free to choose betweens the side that says what other side

It's basically the intelligent design people saying, "hey teach the controversy in classrooms across the US." while the other side of these two sides which consists of scientists, says "What controversy?" addressing evolution. This has happened recently in kansas and other bible belt states. it is good to see a modern band addressing the attempted attribution of pseudo-science in our classrooms.

Awesome. Good observations. Thanks, this is my favorite song on Of Course or Another Song About Camping.

I hadn't noticed it until you pointed out that lyric, but there's a spoken word bit in "Field Recordings of Dreams" by Tim Kinsella where he also talks about these "two sides"... Interesting interpretation, too.
