i step outside into the light
the sun is bright
i close my eyes
the summer caught me by surprise
and now i'm left here waiting
for you to tell me how it is
if i could only get a kiss
i could make you take a risk
on a boy who wants this

and now the sun has sunk below
the evening wind, it starts to blow
i catch the sent of your perfume
it lifts me higher than the moon

i'll be fine
if you stay by my side
never felt this way in my whole life
never had this feeling before tonight
can't get you off my mind
cause you shine, girl, oh you know you shine

your eyes are brighter than the sun
they make me see that you're the one
your smile takes my breath away
and leave me with nothing left to say
you arent like any other girl
that i've met in this whole world
you're so much more than they can be
so won't you just be with me

i'll be fine
if you stay the night
never felt this way in my whole life
never had this feeling before tonight
can't get you off my mind
cause you shine, girl, oh you know you shine

i would give up forever to see the day
where the both of us could just walk away

never felt this way in my whole life
never had this feeling before tonight
can't get you off my mind
cause you shine, girl, oh you know you shine

never felt this way in my whole life
never had this feeling before tonight
can't get you off my mind
cause you shine, girl, oh you know you shine

"i step outside into the light the sun is bright i close my eyes the summer caught me by surprise and now i'm left here waiting for you to tell me how it is if i could only get a kiss i could make you take a risk on a boy who wants this" When he talks about stepping out into the light he is talking about a girl. He steps into her life she is so great he doesn't know what to do and she caught him by surprise, then out of nowhere leaves. He needs to know from her how it all is now and he needs a kiss that he can't have. He just wants her to take a risk on him.

"and now the sun has sunk below the evening wind, it starts to blow i catch the sent of your perfume it lifts me higher than the moon" She takes the chance to be with him, and when he gets the smell of her perfume it lifts him high as to being so happy.

"i'll be fine if you stay by my side never felt this way in my whole life never had this feeling before tonight can't get you off my mind cause you shine, girl, oh you know you shine" Its pretty much self-explanatory, but she that he needs her by his side and has never been so happy ever, because she shines for him.

"your eyes are brighter than the sun they make me see that you're the one your smile takes my breath away and leave me with nothing left to say you arent like any other girl that i've met in this whole world you're so much more than they can be so won't you please just be with me" she is just so bright inside. It makes him feel as though she is the one for him because she is different then any other girl he has met, he believe she is so much more then any of them can be so he wants her to pick him.

"i'll be fine if you stay the night never felt this way in my whole life never had this feeling before tonight can't get you off my mind cause you shine, girl, oh you know you shine" Pretty the same thing the only difference is he wants her to stay just one more night with him.

"i would give up forever to see the day where the both of us could just walk away hand in hand" He describes how what they have can't be more because of unknown situations and how he just wishes they could be one together, but will have to wait to see that day.

Then is just repeats the chorus This song really ment a lot to me. I was almost exactly this song. But in the end it was over by her and now its meaningless but i felt how he did. That she was the one, she was different then other girls, she caught me by surprise and lifted me higher then the sky. But i guess some things were never ment to last.

Fortnight
Taylor Swift
The song 'Fortnight' by Taylor Swift and Post Malone tells a story about strong feelings, complicated relationships, and secret wishes. It talks about love, betrayal, and wanting someone who doesn't feel the same. The word 'fortnight' shows short-lived happiness and guilty pleasures, leading to sadness. It shows how messy relationships can be and the results of hiding emotions. “I was supposed to be sent away / But they forgot to come and get me,” she kickstarts the song in the first verse with lines suggesting an admission to a hospital for people with mental illnesses. She goes in the verse admitting her lover is the reason why she is like this. In the chorus, she sings about their time in love and reflects on how he has now settled with someone else. “I took the miracle move-on drug, the effects were temporary / And I love you, it’s ruining my life,” on the second verse she details her struggles to forget about him and the negative effects of her failure. “Thought of callin’ ya, but you won’t pick up / ‘Nother fortnight lost in America,” Post Malone sings in the outro.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Punchline
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran sings about missing his former partner and learning important life lessons in the process on “Punchline.” This track tells a story of battling to get rid of emotions for a former lover, whom he now realized might not have loved him the same way. He’s now caught between accepting that fact and learning life lessons from it and going back to beg her for another chance.
