The End of an Anchor Lyrics

I was away for a while
But I'm hoping someday you'll forgive me
Though I don't deserve it
I'll cherish it well if you give me
One of your new starts
Just one more last chance
I swear that I'll earn it
If you front me for now
I'm good for it I swear
I'm better now I swear

In earlier days
They'd persecute people
They'd carry them off and hobble their legs
For lesser offences than how I have harmed you
And still you allow me to walk free of pain
Though I punish myself,
I will never settle the debts I've occurred
For scorning the face
Of absolute beauty and measureless grace
And though I once mocked you
I'm dying to pay for it now...
I'm dying to pay for it now...

So hand me the rocks, to help weigh me down
And tether my legs with a cord tightly bound to the
End of an anchor thrown into the sand
And test me to see...
If I will rise against...
The worst that it can get

I wasn't well for a while
I savored the things that I knew were sure to destroy me
And that seemed to hold me
That seemed to carry me where I couldn't go
On the strength of my own, but I should've known
That that gets me no where
I've learned that now I swear

In earlier days
Theyd persecute people
They'd carry them off and hobble their legs
For lesser offences than how I have harmed you
And still you allow me to walk free of pain
Though I punish myself,
I will never settle the debts I've occurred
For scorning the face
Of absolute beauty and measureless grace
And though I once mocked you
I'm dying to pay for it now...
I'm dying to pay for it now now now...

So hand me the rocks, to help weigh me down
And tether my legs with a cord tightly bound to the
End of an anchor thrown into the sand
And test me to see...
If I will rise against...
The worst that it can get

Well I wasn't sure that I could,
Well I wasn't sure that I could,
Well I wasn't sure that I could...
But I can

I think maybe this could be Chris's return to God...seems like he may have fallen away from Him, but Chris has truly realzied God's forgiveness and how God can get him through the things that have happened... "The debts I've incurred for scorning the face of absolute beauty, and measureless grace...And still you allow me to walk free of pain "

this song doesn't really sound like chris at all, i don't think its really dashboard, i wish it was though because i would like to see him write a song about god.

I think that thegoodfight15 is completely right about the song meaning. But angelboy28 has no idea what he is talking about. If you knew anything about Chris you would know that it is completely obvious that it is him singing... common people, use your noggins.

Angleboy28-- what do you mean it doesnt sound like him-Do you mean like the way he wrote the song or the way he sounds? I totally think it does in both ways. Well anywho, let me know what it is that doesnt sound like him... <><

when i heard about this song i couldnt find it anywhere so my friend told me to d/l it off itunes. this song is the reason why i came to love dashboard. the lyrics are incredible and its just an all out beautiful song. i hope this is the direction chris heads back in. he didnt get famous off mark, misson, brand... he made a name for himself off his previous efforts. i hope he realizes he's earned his place, so he can ease up on the whole rock star mentality

hm... this song's definately about second chances one way or the other. i always believed it was about a girl, and he'd made a mistake and now he's dying to prove himself again. the guilt's eating him up because she/they/whoever didn't take revenge for whatever he did.

"They'd carry them off, and hobble their legs For lesser offenses, and how I have harmed you And still you allow me to walk free of pain Though I punish myself"

I think that's interesting to think of it as a song to God…when I first heard it too I thought of a girl, but a lot of the lines make sense when you think of it as written to God...I love this song.

I definatly think its a song about a girl. It's me. (not really... but its very relevant) My boyfriend hurt me pretty bad when he kissed another girl, and i didnt really take revenge on him, i just cried about it. I only wish that he had wanted to make things right like the subject of the song did... oh well.. things got better eventually. Thats good right?

It's "for lesser offenses THAN how I have harmed you" it's definitely Dashboard, and I completely believe it's about asking for a second chance with a girl. Honestly, it never even occurred to me that it could be about God.

i never stopped to think it was about a god. it makes some sence, but i think about a gurl makes more sence
