The Little Black Egg Lyrics
I don't care what they say
I'm gonna keep it anyway
I won't let them stretch their necks
To see my little black egg with the little white specks
Chorus:
I found it in a tree
Just the other day
And now it's mine, all mine
They won't take it away
Here comes Mary, here comes Lee
I'll bet what they want to see
I won't let them stretch their necks
To see my little black egg with the little white specks
(Chorus)
Oh, goldurn, what can I do?
The little black egg's gonna tell on you
I won't let them stretch their necks
To see my little black egg with the little white specks
My little black egg... [repeat to fade]
I'm gonna keep it anyway
I won't let them stretch their necks
To see my little black egg with the little white specks
Just the other day
And now it's mine, all mine
They won't take it away
I'll bet what they want to see
I won't let them stretch their necks
To see my little black egg with the little white specks
The little black egg's gonna tell on you
I won't let them stretch their necks
To see my little black egg with the little white specks

In the 1960's nordic trees were highly referenced, (Beatles - Norwegian wood, Woodstock ect…) and fueled much of the Pluto Leo Generation.
"Little Black Egg" pertains to the Yggdrasil trees of Denmark, where according to legends Queen Jiliana's eldest daughter Beatrix mortified and emasculated dutch Low saxon men with skinny tight fit jeans. These men were forever then attached to the Yggdrasil Tree.
"Oh, golden (goddam), what can I do?"
Because I don't know for a fact, I will post this here. My mother who was alive in the 60's and claims this as one of her favorite songs, told me that the little black egg was a black girl and with the little white specks was a reference to her glasses aka spectacles, and I won't let them stretch their necks, is pretty straightforward, ogling her because she was his girlfriend and racism was pretty strong still in the 60's. I can't say with 100% certainty that my mother is right, but breaking it down it makes sense.
I think the little black egg is symbolic of a new girlfriend he just found and does not want anyone to know about her for some reason we will never know. I like that because it keeps you guessing. It could be a racial, age, another guy's girlfriend or just a real beauty he wants for himself !!?? Great song- top ten of my all time favorites songs.
