Scream Scream Scream Lyrics
A man is many things
Let's count them all tonight
You're letting go of strings
Replacing them with light
But I want the hit about the teenage take on pain
There's nothing catchy about the life of a saint
But I've got this song in my head
And it's breaking me down to tears
If I scream scream scream
About a good man's life
Would you ever stop and listen
Would you open up your eyes
Would you scream with me
Sing it sad and sweet
Say goodnight, goodbye, love
In the morning you will see
Photos keep you close
With increments of light
The quiet wooden posts
The county's cold tonight
But I want the hit about the teenage take on pain
There's nothing catchy about the life of a saint
But I've got this song in my head
And it's breaking me down to tears
If I scream scream scream
About a good man's life
Would you ever stop and listen
Would you open up your eyes
Would you scream with me
Sing it sad and sweet
Say goodnight, goodbye, love
In the morning you will see
I'd rip my eyes out for you
I pull you close - you're asking why
it's so cold tonight - I don't know why...
If I scream scream scream
About a good man's life
Would you ever stop and listen
Would you open up your eyes
Would you scream with me
Sing it sad and sweet
Would it make you cry
Would you finally see
That all your lives are moments
All your words and closeness
Keep you here and human
Whispering tonight
All your lives are moments (So we scream)
All your words and closeness (And see as far as)
Keep you here and human (While they stand and stare)
Do you think they'll ever care
I don't care
I don't care
Let's count them all tonight
You're letting go of strings
Replacing them with light
There's nothing catchy about the life of a saint

Volpe wrote "Scream" after his girlfriend's father died unexpectedly. On its surface, the song is a bouncy, driving rocker with twinkling Moog parts, but it poses a serious question: If I scream scream scream/About a good man's life/Will you ever stop and listen? Volpe says at the time he was thinking about the unlikelihood of anyone playing a song about a "good man" on the radio. "It's not some sexy, teenage thing." --from the River Front Times online article on Feb 20, 2008
SO I was listening to the song when reading this and it went "If I scream scream scream" just when I was reading it in your comment. I though I'd make an account just to let you know :P

I LOVE this song.
But the lyrics that Volpe sings at the end are "the sadness sweetly for him" not "And see as far as".
I haven't heard this song since they had it on myspace and they didn't play it live last time I went....I love this song right now it's my second favorite next to please. I need to hear it, I need my fix! :P
I first heard this song on Crash Test Radio (new music for a whole hour), and it reminded me of Jack's Mannequin, but then I realized the voice wasn't the same. But I loved it when I heard the chorus. Really good song.
That's what I got from it, a death of a parent. My best friend's mom just died, and this song fits her so well. But then again, a lot of their songs do.
Does anyone know what the words are right after "I'd rip my eyes out for you" but before "You're screaming at the cold"?
I never listed to this song all that closely. You know, I just bobbed my head along to the beat. It's a good song and for a long time, that's all I thought about it. But I'm learning that all of Ludo's songs have a double edge. If you don't think about the lyrics, all you catch are the guitar riffs and the words, but not the weight behind them.
I looked up the lyrics on a whim today, and this is just the site I default to for lyrics. And god, I don't know what I was expecting but it wasn't this. This song being about the death of a parent makes tons of sense. My dad died recently. I'd be lying if I said this didn't hurt a little bit listening to it again when I knew the meaning. He wasn't exactly a saint, but his life didn't exactly inspire music. He was just an ordinary guy. But it's those people that deserve songs.
This song has the entire capacity to reduce me to a sniffling lump of self-pity, but it's hidden in this catchy rock song. This band has serious talent, man. It's hard to hide such a hard topic so easily inside of toe-tapping vocals and head-nodding beats, but they do it really well.
I'm constantly blown away by this band! Ludo is just fantastic!
