Plans, Shapes, and Patterns

We've got so many late night plans outlined in the streetlights.
We've got our plans,
we've got our designs,
I've got a fifth of whiskey
and a whole lot of time
and right now
I really don't care about anything
but getting wasted.
You forgot about the ground under you're feet;
you were so worried about
keeping your eyes up on heaven
and your soul out of hell.
And I know (I know)
I should be pious,
but I just can't help but ask,
"What's so wrong with feeling good about yourself?"
We all want escape
but we're not willing to take (we're not willing to take)
the risks that come with the territory.
I know you want to smile
but your lips can't remember
the shapes and the patterns that form the letters
to mouth the words to blend a phrase about feeling better.
And I know (I know)
I should be pious,
but I just can't help but ask,
"What's so wrong with feeling good about yourself?"
