The Stone Lyrics

I've been pushing stones away
far from these shores
I pretend that it's all okay
On the brink of what can't be adored

We survived
well we can change
So let it fade
Just let it go
We pretend so nothing does change
Flowers never breaking through the stone

I pretend and pray it all away
searching for a place to hide
But I don't need to pretend memories
to fade
I just wanna feel something real inside

And we survive
Well we can change
So let it fade
Let it go
We pretend so nothing does change
The flowers never breaking through the stone

I've been pushing stones away
far from these shores
I pretend that it's all okay
So long I can be adored

We survived
well we can change
So let it fade
Just let it go
We pretend so nothing does change
Flowers never breaking through the stone

No offense, but I think these are the right lyrics:

I've been pushing stones away far from these shores I pretend that it's all ok Til on the brink of what can't be endured

We survive Well we can change So let it fade Just let it go We pretend so nothing does change We're flowers never breaking through the stone.

I pretended and prayed it all away, searching for a place to hide But I don't need afflicted memories to fade, I just want to feel something real inside.

We survive Well we can change So let it fade Just let it go We pretend so nothing does change We're flowers never breaking through the stone.

I've been pushing stones away Far from these shores I.. Pretend that it's all ok Til on the brink of what can be endured.

We survive What we can't change So let it fade Just let it go We pretend so nothing does change We're flowers never breaking through

We survive What we can't change So let it fade Just let it go We pretend so nothing does change We're flowers never breaking through

This is A LOT closer than 99% of the lyric attempts that I have seen on the net.

This is a great song..good meaning to it..It seems like billy is saying they survived their bad habbits..now its time just let it go..he also seems to talk about how we, as people like to just ignore something so we dont have to put up with change..and if that doesnt happen..we'll never progress forward..like flowers never breaking through the stone

i wasn't surprised at how much i like this song, It's pretty cool that Maynard James Keenan's son -Devo plays cello for ashes divide. Also the fact that Billy demonstrates his multiple- instrumental talents which is good. But hopefully there will be another APC album in the near future as well.

The posted lyrics above seem correct for the most part, only a couple things that should be added/changed at least the way i hear them:

"We survived well we can change"- sounds more like---

We survived what we cant change.

Also "Flowers never breaking through the stone"- sounds like there is a "we're" said before it.

Go ASH dIVIDE go.

This is one great song I Loooooooove it. Can't tell you what it means though. but this part that goes: "We pretend so nothing does change Flowers never breaking through the stone" to me signifies someone who's got the potential to make a change in the society or in someones life but just doesn't come around to doing that and thus flowers never breaking through stone. My two cents worth

ok first off i was extremely high when i listened to this song and i feel i nearly over-evaluated everything there is (and i mean it too). I highly doubt this is actually what the song was written about. If this comment interests you please reply...i just want to know I'm not alone :P (if you dont get that then you obviously aren't where I'm at) If you don't like reading I'd suggest looking at another comment maybe lol This is basically what I wrote in my notebook just phrased a little different. (minus the quotes)

"I've been pushing stones away far from these shores I pretend that it's all okay On the brink of what can't be adored"

hes explaining how he has broken through his mind by "pushing stones away" (and notice he says pushing instead of moving so its more of an outward moving motion). He pretends that what he sees is okay and what he sees cannot be seen by most other people. What I think hes seeing is humanity, life, maybe everything.

We survived well we can change...

We survived so far, and we can change our fate. let the thoughts fade just let them go, just swing on the spiral (life). We have the power to lead our species another direction. He notices that pretending is what most people do (whether they know it or not) because their minds can not see that they are doing it. Flowers (most people) never breaking through the stone (our mind)

I pretend and pray it all away searching for a place to hide...

He tries to make this all go away and wishes he never broke out of this shell. He doesn't need to pretend his way back "down" to himself with memories that don't really exist because he truly liked it better when he was all caught up in life. He also feels fake. I know this feeling very well firsthand, because while i was listening to this i felt like i was in a video game, which in a weird sense seems very true.

there has to be more of you out there... lolz i probably sound like I'm losing my mind.

he is saying (i think) "we survive what we can change..." and then he says "but i don't need afflicted memories to fade" it changes the meaning quite a bit

A great song. It does sound like "We survived, what we can't change" though. First time I heard it I got "well we can change", but now I realize the latter probably makes more sense.

Billy is actually quite the talented vocalist. He shouldn't have been so shy. Denial Waits is also awesome.

Reminds me a lot of the Smashing Pumpkins
