Never Looking Back

I think this is about pushing the past behind and starting life over anew and trying to find a new place with new people.

This song is pretty simply saying that one can't look back on the past. They instead must look to the future for everything; happiness, love, friendship, etc.

I think this song is about feeling forced to try to be cooperative and patient with what you have become sick of dealing with to where it's almost impossible to be subordinate. And at an incremental point in your life that your feeling wounded and betrayed.

(Burnt trees on a snowy pass All my friends are far behind I'm stuck with you tonight But I'd be better alone)

This verse he is creating that image driving and using the burnt trees on the snowy pass to represent like a double hit of negativity. Just saying, "this is done for". And left with a situation that is rying to keep him around for a selfish reason that he's dealt with for too long to even want to mess with anymore

(Here I feel he's getting more internal to speak with a different voice than in the first verse, like the dreamer inside saying "oh what a day it would be to find something else", saying he would be fine with losing a past he once used as a crutch to get away from what is keeping him around)

(Realizing its not an ucommon situation, and I think the guy feels a bit stupid for not seeing it was a bad choice in the first place)

Plumes of smoke rise high above Burned bridges lost in luck I guess it's all because They're found on the fault

(Here, I think he is saying he has burnt bridges, but they are found on a pre-existing fault, like faults in the earths crust, that break on their own. The grounds he walked on were broken to begin with, so burning the bridges to those grounds is not a loss to him. I think the luck he talks about here is saying the fact that hes burnt the bridges is a lucky way out for him)

On sandy ground Foundations can't be found And all the stones of change were thrown in my face

(Here I feel he's saying that when your in a difficult place, and also in a difficult situation, and all at the same time you are expected to change in so many ways, it 's impossible to recreate yourself)

(Saying the same as the first verse, and then he hits that sick ass harp solo)

A song written by someone who has been let down by people he trusted. He's trying to work through feelings of betrayal and abandonment.

He's sorting through what he's learned from the experience. Talking about the idea that it's just impossible to build foundations on sandy ground gives him some perspective. People just are what they are.

There are some unresolved feelings of bitterness that are coming through, but he's moving on. Somewhere is a future where he can start over with new horizons to explore.
