Naked and Red Lyrics
god is swinging from the liquor tree
licking everything he finds
god knows all about you and me
lucky i got something to hide
well all along in the evergreens
baby's got a soul to steal
i know you and you know me
maybe we can make a deal
there goes adam with the devil's head
his body's all naked and red
well we're all naked now in our heads
but i know who made my bed
still i feel sorry for the devil's ead
his mother never taught him no good
i'm still swinging from the liquor tree
and eden is a hell of a place
eden is a hell of a place
talk, talk, talk, talk your devils down
sun, sun, sun, sun is coming out
and burn, burn, burn all your witches out
and work, work, work till the day is out
licking everything he finds
god knows all about you and me
lucky i got something to hide
baby's got a soul to steal
i know you and you know me
maybe we can make a deal
his body's all naked and red
well we're all naked now in our heads
but i know who made my bed
his mother never taught him no good
i'm still swinging from the liquor tree
and eden is a hell of a place
sun, sun, sun, sun is coming out
and burn, burn, burn all your witches out
and work, work, work till the day is out

This song is freaking amazing. That being said, I think it's about how we and the devil are so similar in our desire to be autonomous. I don't really get the liquor tree part, unless it's intoxicating to be in Eden? So, here goes...
First stanza- Adam and Eve, in the garden, hiding from G-d.
Second stanza- Tempter approaches, appeals to Eve's intellect and their similarities.
Third stanza- Adam's gotten into the devil's mindset, and he's suffering the same as the devil... he knows he's naked and he's ashamed, but he's arrogantly proud because he knows he's in charge of himself.
Fourth stanza- Sympathy for the devil and self? and a longing for Eden once more?
End- Suffering outside Eden?
