She's a Saint, Not a Celebrity Lyrics
Marie, come out tonight.
you could be my valentine.
Marie, you're center stage.
you're the soul for the new age.
I will be the leper.
read me my last rite
a crippled believer
gimme sight
Whoo!!
Marie, would you make a bid,
on a broken invalid ?
Marie, would you drink my wine?
we could live on stolen time
I will be the leper
read me my last rite
a crippled believer
gimme sight
Marie, full of grace and sin.
throwing caution to the wind
Marie, I'm crucified
drink my blood coming from my eyes
I will be your leper
read me my last rite
a crippled believer
gimme me sight
Gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme
Gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme
Gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme
Gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme gimme

Even though the way he says it does sound like "Marie", I think the album revolves around a character of "Mary" so I think the name is Mary he just says it in a long way
Yeah... I think it might be...
I'm guessing this song is about him wanting to be with someone whose is a saint and not just a typical celebrity. He's always asking her questions to be with him or do stuff with him cause shes different from the rest. Marie, you're center stage. you're the soul for the new age. Those lines relate true to the title, she is the center stage and soul of the new age, not just the typical celeb of now.
To me, it kinda sounds like some kinky fantasy or role-playing game. "I will be the leper. Read me my last rite. A crippled believer. Gimme sight. Woo!!"
"Marie, full of grace and sin. Throwing caution to the wind. Marie, I'm crucified. Drink my blood coming from my eyes."
Shudders at the mental images conjured up by the verse. Even though it makes me think of some kinky fantasy, I like the rhythym of it.
yeah, i think he's just saying 'mary' all weird. has anyone else made the connection between this album and american idiot? all the religious references and whatnot? maybe it's a backstory or something.. idk.
I think the character is called mother mary like how american idiot its called saint jimmy.
The opening little bit of talking "i'm loud and i'm vulgar and i wear the pants.." is from Are You Afraid Of Virginia Wolf and that character is called Martha. But, clearly that doesn't really fit in.
However the dialogue fits in with the idea of the sexual fantasy role playing. As in..she's the dominant one.
I agree with Knockout000, and ChemicalCaitlin (By the way, your name is almost spelt the same way as mine. :D)
Also, I can kind of see the references to American Idiot, with all the religious names and whatnot, but I don't think Billie Joe wants it to be highly religious, he just incorporates the names in, and it sounds great.
Now a days it would seem like Green Day to make a concept album about things, if this was a concept album i'd say it would be either about women or the affects of writing songs while acid tripping. lol
