Red Tide Lyrics
Mary's in her hour of darkness.
Everything she feels is hopeless.
Disconnected from the dancehall.
Tripping on her heart of purple.
Is this passion or...
Or your red tide?
Faces of her bleak expression.
Taking on her town's impression.
Tis' the season's witching hour.
As the summer loses power.
Is this passion or...
Or your red tide?
Mary's breaking your kiss goodnight.
This is where her heart will not die.
Is this passion or...
Or your red tide?
Everything she feels is hopeless.
Disconnected from the dancehall.
Tripping on her heart of purple.
Or your red tide?
Taking on her town's impression.
Tis' the season's witching hour.
As the summer loses power.
Or your red tide?
This is where her heart will not die.
Or your red tide?

I used to think this song was called Red TIE.
You know how if you are hooking up with someone you put a tie on the door so people know not to go in? I thought it was basically saying "does this relationship have substance or is it just another hookup?"
this makes me laugh.
because it always makes me think its about getting your period XD
thanks for ruining this song for me. seriously, what's the matter with you lady??
I think it's pretty obvious it's about PMS. When I first heard the chorus, I laughed out loud so hard. Very smooth, Billie XD I think the narrator is confused about how his lover/'Mary' is acting (as most men are loll) during her "hour of darkness". He doesn't know how to interpret her behavior, or if she really is upset or it's just her "red tide". Hence the line "Is this passion or... Or your red tide?" She may be moody and distant now ("Mary's breaking your kiss goodnight"), but it will pass, and she still loves him ("This is where her heart will not die", meaning his kiss/lips).
NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOOO...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
How do you people think like that????? Not in a million years would I ever think that way. YYUUUUU...!!! But I guess that's cause I'm neurotic... And also, now when I think about it kinda does make sense. I don't wanna listen to this song anymore. I also wanna remove my ovaries.
Someone give me a better explanation to this song please?
This is my least favorite song on the record, but I totally agree with the above assessments here.
Loosely translated, the narrator is asking, "You still love me, even if you're a bitch for a while, right?"
Alright then, but I think it's gross.
Ay, MissNeurotic
I've never heard this song, but it's plain to see that it's all about a period... :\
I love the songs slow tempo and melody. I think it's cool how Billie sings this one, it's very different. But I dont think it's about a period. How can you connect, Disconnected from the dancehall. Tripping on her heart of purple.....to a period? I think it's about a summer fling or just a relationship, the guy is wondering is this passion (true love) or just a fling (tide). Don't know why he calls it red though.
Ah... haha. Thank you so much.
