Brown trout blues Lyrics

Time rolls the back wheels of my mind
You helped me put the brakes on 'cos you're kind
I wonder where you learned to be so good
I wonder if I'm doing the best I could

I could be somewhere else
I should be someone else but
You wouldn't know me if I was
You'd say I was a stranger just because
You'd say I wasn't weak enough for you
You'd want me just to feel as you do too

I could be somewhere else
I should be someone else but
You shouldn't tell me what to do
I'll only take the brakes off if you do
And roll around like marbles on the floor
Please pick me up and roll me out the door

I could be somewhere else
I should be someone else but

I guess I'm happy as I am
Sometimes I find it hard to be a man
It easier just to play the same old game
Of trying to forget my bloody name

I could be somewhere else
I should be someone else but
How are you? I'm Mr,
I know what I'm called
It's just you got me
You've got me
You've got me stalled

Well, it's about accepting your partner as he/she is. I'll only take the brakes off if you do - it's so true.

Idk, I think it's more about learning to accept both yourself and your partner while you're in the relationship.

Other than being a great, amazing song ... I think this song is about someone being hesitant about compromising or giving up something only to stay with this other person.

Lyrics check up on the 2nd verse:

I could be somewhere else I should be someone else but You wouldn't know me if I was

You'd say I was a stranger just because You'd say I wasn't weak enough for you You'd want me just to feel as you do too

Last verse:

I could be somewhere else I should be someone else But how you are mister?

I know what I'm called It's just you got me You got me, you got me stalled.

I found this here: http://www.losthighwayrecords.com/artist/press/detail.aspx?nid=2244&aid=258

Johnny Flynn: "Well it’s loosely based around experience wanting somebody or something to be a certain way in a relationship and wondering how it could change. But then realizing that that would defeat the point and that you can’t change someone they have to change themselves.

The title is a thing that me and my dad had [Johnny’s dad was stage actor Eric Flynn, who died in 2002 - Ed]. We used to go trout fishing a lot and we caught a lot of rainbow trout, but we wanted to catch brown trout because they were quite rare so if we went out for a day and didn’t catch a one we’d say we had the Brown Trout Blues, so it’s kind of a joke that I called it that."

I think this song is about being in a relationship that has run its course. Now one person is different, but feels trapped to stay:

I could be somewhere else I should be someone else but It easier just to play the same old game Of trying to forget my bloody name

They know this but feel 'stalled' by the other person.
