Goodbye Lyrics
It's a shame, that it had to be this way
It's not enough to say I'm sorry,
It's not enough to say I'm sorry.
Maybe I'm so blind
Or maybe we're the same
But either way I can't breathe
Either way I can't breathe
All I had to say was goodbye,
We're better off this way,
We're better off this way.
I'm alive but I'm losing all my drive
'Cause everything we've been through
And everything about you seems to be a lie,
A guiltless, twisted lie
That made me learn to hate you
Or hate myself for letting it pass by.
All I had to say is goodbye,
We're better off this way,
We're better off this way.
All I had to say is goodbye,
We're better off this way,
We're better off this way.
And every, everything isn't only what it seems
So hold these words that you never told me
It's time to say goodbye, it's time to say goodbye...
Goodbye.
Take my pain away
Tell me I, tell me I was wrong
Tell me I was wrong...
It's not enough to say I'm sorry,
It's not enough to say I'm sorry.
Or maybe we're the same
But either way I can't breathe
Either way I can't breathe
We're better off this way,
We're better off this way.
'Cause everything we've been through
And everything about you seems to be a lie,
A guiltless, twisted lie
That made me learn to hate you
Or hate myself for letting it pass by.
We're better off this way,
We're better off this way.
We're better off this way,
We're better off this way.
So hold these words that you never told me
It's time to say goodbye, it's time to say goodbye...
Goodbye.
Tell me I, tell me I was wrong
Tell me I was wrong...

My interp is that it's a boy who deeply loves a girl. They have been together, but he can feel them drifting apart. He desperately wants to save what they still have, but despite his best efforts, everything is still falling apart. He can feel her feelings fading and despite her reassurances that she still loves him, he wonders if she does at all anymore. Hence the line "SEEMS to be a lie, a guiltless, twisted lie". It implies he isn't 100% sure, but the pain in his heart tells him she probably hasn't loved him for a while. He finally realizes that his heart cannot take the strain of trying to save something that will destroy him in the end, so he must say goodbye. Yet even is his final decision, he still yearns to be hers, and wishes beyond reason that everything could be made right. And so, as he says goodbye, he continues to cry out in despair "Take my pain away, TELL ME I WAS WRONG", almost as if he wishes it all to be an unpleasant dream, because in the end he is still painfully aware that she remains his heart's deepest desire. Great song, and I can really relate

this is like EXACTLY what I'm going through emotionally right now. It's so true for me and you interpretation is the way I interpret the song. It fits - thanks for posting and putting my feelings into words.

to me its about a failing relationship. the person singing is in love with someone, but they find out the other one doesn't love them, so everything they went through seemed like a lie. and that maybe they are better off without eachother
Crimson love...
Okay! From my experience, this could be about being in love with a girl who is already in a relationship. She loves him back, and she's torn between the man who she is in the relationship with and the man who she had ended up loving aswell. The two have found themselves in a predicament, for instance they realised their mutual feelings and something occured due to them, causing the girl to become unfaithful to her boyfriend. He knows it's killing her, because she is so in love with her partner and him, so he does what he has to do. If he removes himself from the picture, she can be happy in their relationship. It's a painful thing to do, but in the long run it must be worth it. It must be easier to live with knowing that the person you love is happy and getting on with their life, rather than knowing that you could be the cause of them having to leave someone they love so dearly.
yeah..
depressing, ne? But it is impossible to be in love with two people at once. If you truley love someone, they are everything and anything that you will ever need. When you love someone for their positives and their flaws, what could possibly lead you to think someone else is better than them?
XD OKAY. i'm done with my little depressed and waffled message. :] There's my view! XD
I think it's "A guiltless, twisted lie"
new secondhand serenade amazin. i love this song as well as every song on the new album. the release is in about a month. i got a preview though n this song means u know its time to say goodbye. its straightforward. u know its time to move on from the past. in the end u know its for the best.
but what about the "tell me i was wrong" sounds like a bucketload of regret to me.

Simply put, the girl (or lover) is leaving the other one and he's torn about it. He may be regretting how he acted or he wishes he should have treated or did things different ("Or hate myself for letting it pass by"... i'm actually not too sure about that line) And now the girl isn't turning out to be what he imagined her to be. "A countless twisted lie"
I think the song is about a relationship that has ended. The girl ended it with him, he loved her a lot and he sees it as though she didn't love him(that's what he means with a guiltless twisted lie, her saying I love you to him) And he doesn't know who to be more angry with, her or himself for believing what she told him. And now he knows things are better off this way, so he doesn't want to hear anything more from her. "So hold these words that you never told me, it's time to say goodbye" In other words saying he will no longer be waiting for her and goodbye is all that's left to say.
the actualsong stops at 2:30 into it but there is a very long musical and vocal part that just adds all the more drama to it. i love this song and every song on the album! i think this band just became my favorite!
its not a band, its one guy, he writes all the songs/serenades for his wife, (or ex-wife now) and after shes listened to them he releases them as under his name secondhand serenades, because there secondhand after she listens to them. so beautiful and poetic :)

"maybe i'm so blind" = "maybe i'm to blame"
